Star Wars: The Clone Wars To Return With New Episodes — Page 9

I just finished the first season of Rebels myself and it was pretty great. Honestly, I prefer it to Clone Wars, even if the best Clone Wars has to offer is better from a critical standpoint than anything rebels has to offer (so far). It’s just Rebels NAILS what I would want from an OT Star Wars cartoon. Like, (most of) this show could’ve been made in the 80’s just as easily as when it actually was.

I will say I’m really glad I finished season 7 of Clone Wars on D+ before getting too far into Rebels. I won’t spoil anything but those of you who’ve seen both can guess what confrontation I’m anticipating after the season 1 finale of Rebels, and I feel it will be even more powerful given the (great!) ending of Clone Wars…

Personally I like Rebels more than TCW so if you’re enjoying it now just wait.

I’m definitely going to have to dive back into rewatching The Clone Wars from the start. I’ve owned the blu-ray’s of seasons 1-6 for a while now for viewing fanedits, and for use of potential fanedits of my own. But honestly, I’ve seen most of the episodes only once through. I have very fond memories of The Clone Wars, but I was less critical of the prequels at that time.

In all honesty, I get more enjoyment these days from the tv side of Star Wars then the movies. They are just able to dig into details the movies don’t have time for and really give us lots of time to get to know the characters. Plus, they seem to explore some aspects of Star Wars that are a little less mainstream.

And specifically for the animated series, there’s always that 80’s/90’s Saturday morning cartoon feel, especially in Rebels, that makes me fond of my childhood.

I suspect we have a dedicated thread somewhere back when it was current, so I won’t derail this one too much further. I’ve made it through season one. I’ll say this: with God as my witness (and that carries some weight coming from a Sicilian Catholic), I really enjoyed this. I’m unwashed in the Prequel story and characters, save for the very well known, so there were some areas where I was lost. Nothing that Google and Wookiepedia weren’t able to clear up.

A quick sort of ranking: The Hidden Enemy was my favorite episode. I dug the sort of who dunnit vibe and the more cerebral aspects away from heated battles. Likewise for most of the episodes where the clones are the focus of the story. I find all that very interesting. Again, not having seen them in the films, I didn’t have to reconcile their portrayal with anything pre-existing.

To that end, As discussed earlier, I didn’t dislike any of the characters and think all are much better served than the film versions (I’ve seen only clips of the films, but have always thought they were terribly written, directed, and acted).

That’s not the case with Clone Wars. I’d also like to take this moment to mention I was wrong on my early assessment that the show is a ” visual-first, story-second style of storytelling“. That may have been true for the first couple of episodes, but there is significant story now that it’s going.

Last but by no means least; Ahsoka just about makes the entire show. Her story feels like a major artery running through and connecting everything. If this is where she was introduced, it was a master stroke. Starting season two in a few hours. I may or may not add much to this beyond favorite episodes or arcs.

Can you imagine how long Eckstein has been recording for the SoM arc? All that grunting areally made her vocal chords scratched up.

When I watched the featurrette video, there was one line that wasn’t in the Siege of Mandalore arc. It has the BTS footage of Ashley Eckstein recording a cut line saying “The only question is, who finishes their mission first.”. I’m not sure why it was excluded, but I’m sure that Dave Filoni might release all illustrated screenplay of All Clone Wars Episodes.

If there were deleted scenes from the Siege of Mandalore, I would be pleased.
