The Rise of Skywalker: Ascendant (Released) — Page 83

The suns are rising, at least in the final shot they are. They actually move quite significantly over the course of that 10 second shot.

Yeah, I hear you about the framing being off-style for the movie. It’s hard to imagine whether it would have felt off if we saw it in the theater, and part of why I like it is that it doesn’t feel overly manufactured. The audio replacement alone is nice, though, if nothing else.

Skenera, that shot looks good! I don’t think his cape matters, as I would want to crib that shot between two establishing shots anyway and he could easily have discarded it. It’s the snow that’s probably gonna kill it. Ash maybe, but snow might be too weird to accept.

My stance on revising fan edits.

Yes you can pretty clearly see the suns rise in both shots.

Problem is that he wears the cape during the battle, it’s not like he’d put it on before engaging the enemy.

Thanks! I think you’re right, after watching through it a couple times I think that Vader’s Castle would need to be almost like a flash, and maybe the Wayfinder or the box should be shown right after. Then progress to showing the Luke and Han visions.

Yesterday I watched Rogue One and realized that at the scene in Vader’s castle, just after it cuts from Vader’s bacta tank, it shows the ceiling of the room and there’s a triangular shape very similar to the Sith Wayfinder.

https://youtu.be/yHeNsynAMgE (at 1:10)

Likely just a coincidence (Sith are frequently associated with triangular/pyramidal shapes, such as their holocrons or temples), but maybe a version of that shot (reframed or edited, since Krennic’s shadow shows in the lower right corner) could be repurposed for Kylo’s vision along with the backview of the castle (at 0:24), while leaving the panning exterior shot of the fortress for the actual Mustafar sequence.

I mean it’s a completely different outfit altogether.

Maybe he takes after his grandmother and just likes to change outfits between each scene. 😂

(Airplane, anyone?)

I literally watched this yesterday. I laughed way too much at this.

Would be interesting if we recoloured Mustafar from Rogue One to match episode IX and got elements of the forest in the shot some how.

Does anyone besides masked Kylo and Palptine refer to Rey as a scavenger? I wonder how feasible it may be to remove that, as she seemed to move past that in the eyes of all the characters.

Yes. When Finn says, “You were a spice runner?” to Poe he responds with something like “You were a stormtrooper? And you were a scavenger? We can do this all day.” I personally liked that joke, so I would prefer not to mess with it.

Did anyone else find it odd that Palpatine was never referred to as Sidious in TROS? Luke dropped “Darth Sidious” in TLJ, but in a movie with "Darth Sidious "as the main villain and with a sith cult that follows him, nobody calls palpatine by his sith name.

Feels strange for luke to call him palpatine after TLJ 😕

Terrio: Something something prophecy = POetrY!

They probably thought that as long as he was not referred to as “Darth” then the sith were not really back, leaving the prophecy intact, so the sith would only really return when the ritual succeeded.

Chase, I built off your Falcon hyperspace exit. How does this work for you?

That’s perfect Poppasketti, thank you!
I’ll wait for you to add it to your Google Drive.

Just dropped the lightspeed exit shot to the “Master Clips” folder on my drive! I just sent the video, as I figured you or Hal might have a specific sound adjustment in mind, but let me know!

I think if you think about it Luke using Sidious is the name that made the most sense in the context of that sentence. In TROS, Luke is talking about Rey being a Palpatine, so it wouldn’t really make sense to say “You’re a Sidious,” or to call her a Palpatine and then switch to a different name. As for the others, I imagine the general population wouldn’t know the name Sidious. In the end, it’s really Kylo Ren that’s the problem, because he should be well aware of the name Sidious. And if they wanted to keep things consistent with one name that’d be fine, but they have Kylo calling him both “Palpatine” and “The Emperor,” often in the same scene.

I wouldn’t do that. He’s belittling Rey by referring back to her humble origins.

Any tips on the best way to color grade these really blue shots to the pinkish-orange atmosphere of Mustafar? When I color-grade it, it gets really pixalated/noisy but there has to be some way that it can be done…

This is a cool concept, but Vader’s Castle is in ruins by this time. According to canon, by 35 ABY, many cultists had come to the ruins of Vader’s castle seeking to tap into his power. The most tenacious, the Alazmec, had colonized the Corvax Fen, a rich soil ground and planted several irontrees. However, because the Sith wayfinder was located on an area of the planet forested with irontrees, Supreme Leader Kylo Ren and his stormtroopers attacked the cult of Alazmec colonists, who were sworn to protect the fen surrounding the ruins of Vader’s castle.

In turn, perhaps a forrest (color corrected to match the iron tree forrest in the movie) would be a better establishing shot.

I OP’d a reply in the Redux thread to jonh’s suggestion for a better audio mix of his amazing Force ghosts/purple saber clip, but I know it’s been shared/talked about here too, so just dropping a link in case you Hal fans don’t follow that thread. This is actually just a re-edit that retains the original movie audio, which I thought was already paced very well…

Hmm, I was working with some of these just for fun-sies… Do these fit in a little bit better? I’m not the best color corrector. I was just glad I didn’t have to follow a spaceship frame-by-frame for these lol
