I agree. That scene alone would have made me happier with the rest of the film even as is.

Jonh, please upload your edit of the ghosts to YouTube for everyone to appreciate. It’s cringey seeing fanboys’ poor attempts at doing the same thing. The world deserves to se your version.

Oh and about your new clip you’re not fooling anyone, that’s clearly AotC, but the rest of the scene is good. You’re on the right track!

hahahha, But how do I upload it to YouTube without Disney denouncing me?

Yeah, maybe we can save a glimpse of it for a trailer for Ascendant? Haha.

Played around with that Coruscant concept art from DOTF: https://vimeo.com/416679459
It might be usable with some added lights and sfx.

This could be useful: [CVPR 2020] 3D Photography using Context-aware Layered Depth Inpainting
Similar project: 3d-ken-burns

It can be ran in Google Colab, but unfortunately, the resolution is quite low since the runtime is limited.
The result would have to be touched up obviously, but this is how the Coruscant concept art turned out.

Wow, that’s really cool skenera! And it may not be necessary, but I think a nice final touch would be to add lanes of air speeders flying through the city.

Wow that’s leaps and bounds better than what I thought was achievable.
This software could probably be used to create a new establishing shot of Mustafar using concept art and the like :https://www.deviantart.com/skybolt/art/VADERS-CASTLE-657587543

I like the DotF concept piece, but I think if we were to use it, I would remove the massive ship and replace it with a regular FO destroyer. If we are going to show a destroyer blowing up during the victory montage at the end of the film, I think it would be better to set up that moment by showing that destroyer hover above the city at the beginning of the film, rather than this big boi right here. Unless we showed it blow up or on fire at the end.

I think aesthetic wise the huge flying “capital” brings something new aesthetically to the table, which the ST really needs.
I was thinking, what if we use the DOTF concept art but when we get to the shot of Kylo on the bridge, we see the jedi temple in the distance with a destroyer hovering above, this way in the board room scene we cut to the destroyer, with the jedi temple’s pillars in the background or whatever and in the end we have both the big boy and the destroyer blow up or Holdo manoeuvred.

Edit: Rough concept of Kylo facing the temple:https://vimeo.com/417422513

What if kylo finds the wayfinder in coruscant? Instead of mustafar … In the jedi temple

That would be pretty epic if someone could pull it off. It be like the mother ship blowing up at the end of Independence Day!

If anyone could make that a reality it certainly is you. The final ghost scene with the purple lightsaber is all I ever wanted out of that scene. I sound like a broken record at this point, but truly amazing work!

According to the Rise of Skywalker concept art that was JJ’s original intention.

Jonh I love it and will incorporate it into my edit!!! Thank you!!! I did notice some significant gradient banding in the first few vfx shots of the force ghosts with lightning. The same banding is not present in the final three vfx shots of the ghosts. Depending on the tools/plugins used, I know sometimes banding can be the end result, especially in Premiere and After Effects. If there is a way to reduce the banding I’ll wait for an update, otherwise I’ll use this.

Here is what I mean by “banding”

Thanks again!

Unrelated: Palpatine’s eyes appear to positively glow yellow as he’s electrocuting Rey, despite occasional slight shadows across that part of his face.

Does… does that ever happen any other time in the saga?

When he rejuvenates himself they’re also very bright. I wonder if they could be darkened somewhat to appear that that’s just what his eyes look like, not that his brain is a floodlight.

My stance on revising fan edits.

Is similar banding present in the original shot, too, perhaps?

No these are really completely new shots with the banding. I did check the source TROS, and in the Rey vs Palpatine battle scenes there is no banding present that I could detect.

It would be cool to replace that superstructure with the star destroyer that gets destroyed during the end. Would be a nice way to include coruscant further.

This is magnificent. Absolute perfection. You’ve accomplished something that surpasses the usual scope of fan-edits!

I’ll take they’re not the definitive versions as the audio is out of sync in the last part. But in the visual department, they’re virtually flawless.
