Wow, neerb! That’s great! It’s a more humble delivery, and her voice quiver adds emotion to the line.

Edit: on the other hand, maybe she sounds a little less confident, which maybe undercuts the pride of the moment that she had in the original take? Just a thought!

Yeah, I thought about that as well. I think the emotion at finding a family and reverence for the name/legacy in this take might make it better, but I think the reason the theatrical one was ultimately chosen was to end on a more confident and “happy” note. Daisy’s face in the theatrical is even smiling more than the outtake version, although perhaps combining the two rectifies the issue a bit?

The way she says it there actually sells me on the idea of her saying that line at all. Excellent job.

Here’s a weird idea: change 3PO’s line about the OLD Republic banning speaking Sith to the NEW Republic. (Maybe have to remove “I believe” since it’d be recent.)

Idea is that it’d make the hindrance due to recent hubris or myopia, and remove a slight implication that Palpatine being a Sith would have been in and of itself unacceptable in the days leading up to the Empire. (Like the novelization of ROTS maintaining that belonging to the religion Sith isn’t a crime.)

As a counterpoint, the Sith have a history of being a conquering and slaveholding empire. It absolutely makes sense for the Galactic Republic, which only formed after the Old Republic collapsed following a war with the Sith to ban Sith knowledge.

I just read that the novelization describes 3PO’s prequel-era memories were also restored when R2 fixes him back up.

While it’s not half as touching as it would have been to hear snippets of R2 bringing him back up to speed through telling him their story, i am in favor of implying this in an edit. But it needs to make sense and not feel wrong.

My stance on revising fan edits.

Slightly off-topic, but still re Threepio: I think it makes sense to cut his memory being erased in RotS and in ANH edit his dialogue with R2, so that when he’s talking to Luke about R2’s mission a viewer could infer that they’re sussing out whether Luke is trustworthy.

That is the long version of making it clear in TRoS that his restored memory includes 1-3 though…

One of Lucas’ ideas that never came to fruition was to have Artoo (and the Whills, etc.) telling the story of Star Wars to the in-universe audience.

Imagine if JJ had taken the opportunity to use this idea and have ROS ending with Artoo telling the blank CP30 the entire saga…

“Well, hello there. I don’t believe we’ve met.”
Beep
“You have a story? Well, I’d like to hear it. When did it start?”
Beep
“That long ago? How far away?”
Boop…[Fade out]

That dialogue is a little on the nose for me, but I like the idea.

Hello everyone, I recently created a profile and I love the list of changes you all have come up with! I particularly like the changing Leia’s lightsaber to purple… perfect homage to Carrie Fisher (RIP).

I assume that the parts of list with the green checkmarks are parts that are completed. Something that I have been tinkering with (although I am very, verrryyy green at this) to indicate that Rey was being influenced by the Force ghosts was to color her iris’ a light blue or white color and have them glow. Like how Palpatine’s or the Sith eyes are. Of course this could be a terrible concept and from my experience has been incredibly difficult to produce in After Effects.

Also, I have been working on the text for a crawl if y’all would interested?

That would be interesting! No alternative version of the crawl is set on stone so go with it! The only thing everyone agrees is that this movie desperately needs a new crawl.

Rey’s redub actually makes me like the Rey Skywalker ending.

Been a long time since I did anything with video/audio (not that I was ever good, ha), so this is probably more useful as concept than contribution, but here’s a dub of the final line using the Behind the Scenes take. Password is fanedit.

Bravo! Thank you so much. I love it

Alright here is the crawl, after seeing Hal’s latest version I decided to smash ours together and this was the result:

EPISODE IX
THE RISE OF SKYWALKER
After Jedi Master Luke Skywalker’s valiant last stand at the BATTLE OF CRAIT, the spark of hope lives on. To suppress the growing uprising, the diabolical FIRST ORDER has silenced all communication between neighboring systems.

In an attempt to unite the desperate worlds, RESISTANCE agents are dispatched across the galaxy while Rey, the last hope of the Jedi, continues her training under General Leia Organa.

Meanwhile, a disturbance in the FORCE has led Supreme Leader Kylo Ren to MUSTAFAR in search of a Sith artifact…

It’s 91 words so it is just slightly larger than the normal 88ish words that most of the other crawls are at… I also took out “Hope Reborn!” from the beginning but there might need to be something before “After Jedi Master…” because it kind of starts abruptly.

I think the crawls tend to be in the low 80s actually so yours is definitely on the wordy side.

You would be correct, it appears only the Force Awakens has word count even close, which is 88. Hmm, perhaps this is better. It cuts it down to 86 words

The new rey skywalker audio switch is incredible, I actually like the ending a lot more just by changing the delivery. Great idea, I straight up got goosebumps

I agree. When I first read the leaks online I knew that it all depended on the delivery of that line for it to be cringe or not. I like this delivery way more.

Here is a real quick photo mock up that I did in Photoshop of what I envisioned with Rey “using” the power of the Force Ghosts to defeat Palpatine.

I have no idea how difficult it would be to achieve this in something like After Effects… that scene is really dark and there is a lot of transitions, so it would definitely be a pain to track motion.

No, I don’t think so. Natural eyes makes more sense for the Light.

And did you have to do anything to the line delivery other than overpay it? Could you send me what I’d need to implement it? Not whole audio since music and other things will change.

My stance on revising fan edits.

Honestly, it didn’t take much to make it sound the way it does, which was good for me because I still managed to do it messily.

My steps:

  1. Cut the audio from the commentary (there’s almost no extra sound in the background of her line there)
  2. Cut the audio from the line in the movie (I ripped my blu-ray) and put the audio from the commentary in.
  3. Add some music back in using the rip of my CD soundtrack and have it blend into the music before and after the line (you might notice the discrepancy if you listen, especially at the end of the line).
  4. Adjust the volume for the new audio sources.

I didn’t even use a dedicated audio mixer, just Vegas Pro 14…

IDK how useful my own work will be, but I can send you what I have if you’d like. It would probably be even easier for your version since you’re just totally replacing the music in that scene.

Wow! @Hal9000 responded to me, that’s so cool. So for that scene do you think a force ghost outline would be more subtle/better? Or what is idea for showing the influence of the Force Ghost?

Also I love the other delivery of Rey Skywalker… so good!
