They’re kids movies first and foremost. They’re fun in that context. (The second one gets a bit dark, but that’s George for you.) Some people judged them harshly at the time possibly because they were expecting something on the level of a regular Star Wars film for tv, and there was still Ewok loathing around a year or two after ROTJ.
I’d be surprised if Disney doesn’t make an Ewok film for their streaming service. Lucas did say once there was going to be a third film, but it was getting too expensive. Cindel all grown up standing next to Wicket in TROS would have been a nice touch, even it if baffled casual fans. 😉
