My problem with Rey killing her parents is it goes against the idea that she could ever convince herself they’re coming back.

Not really. It’s pretty obvious Rey has repressed childhood memories.

I agree. I had a lot of difficulty with an adult growing up in such a hostile environment as Jakku clinging to such a notion - seems logical to have turned her into the tougher get on with it kind. But she clings to this notion that they will come back as child might - young teen at best - there’s an emotional resonance to that that the movies never touched on. I was actually optimistic having watched TFA that this would amount to something more - her having killed her parents and repressed it would be that kind of trauma to make her cling to their return - she’s repressed memories of their death and needs them to come back desperately - it would mean she hadn’t done it. The more I think about it, the more I like the idea. And it gives a real sense of struggle - until this point I considered her good / bad conflict to be, dare I say it, “Disney” at best (I shouldn’t have said that. Never set foot in the deep dark woods - the big bad mouse will be after you!..Sorry. Too much time with a toddler.)
