I've decided to share with you guys the audio of Chuck Palahniuk (author of books such as Invisible Monster and Fight Club) reading a short story from his latest book, Haunted (which I unfortunally wasn't able to find here). It's called "Guts", and it's about 20 minutes long.

WARNING - WARNING - WARNING
This story is very disturbing, to the point in which several people have been reported to faint while listening to it. I didn't, but I felt pretty nauseated. If you're younger than 18 DO NOT LISTEN. Hope you enjoy it.

It was good, but a bit disturbing. I am 13, and I felt a little nauseated. Overall though, I liked it.

I love Chuck Palahniuk's work. My favorite of all his books would have to be Survivor.

But I couldn't listen to this. I had to close winamp around 7 minutes and 20 seconds...

I read the book. Guts was by far the goriest of the stories in the book. Overall the book was decent. Nothing spectacular but certainly not bad. I also read Palahniuk's Choke. Have yet to read his others though.

OK for those who are not able to listen to the wma I've posted, here is the transcript for it. But I'd prefer that you listen to the recording, Palahniuk's reading has a bigger impact. I mean, see what it did to Jaster Mareel... I felt pretty sick too, but after listening 2 other times, I feel nothing at all anymore.

You can read it and still have the same effect. I can't say I was nauseous or on the verge of passing out, but I did feel my stomach churning a bit.

Same here. Although I was still sick because of that vodka incident I mentioned previously, so I don't know how much was Palaniuk's, how much was the alcohool. Bossk, how good is the whole book? I've tried to find it here with no success, and it'd be quite expensive to import it - not to mention it would take a month or so...

It's not bad. Not great, but not bad. I have a review for it up on my site. I dunno if it will really help you decide much more than that. If you like Palahniuk, you'll likely enjoy this. It's all about struggling writers at a retreat trying to come up with ideas for stories. But the stories are themselves as they are locked in the place and slowly being killed off or mangling themselves as they struggle through the fear that the situation elicits.

How much would shipping a book from the U.S. to you cost? I was going to try to sell my copy or exchange it somewhere. I'm not going to read it again.

I'm not sure how much would it cost, not really that much, perhaps US$20.00 for shipping and taxes or something like that, but... The problem would be the dollar - real cotation, although the dollar has dropped down considerably recently, a book would cost me two and a half times more than usual if I buy it from the US. So you get the idea, it would cost me the "equivalent" of US$100 or more - not really the equivalent, it would be really US$45 or something, but that's how much it would "cost" me comparing how much things cost around here.

Dayv if that's true, that's one of the most f***ed up things I've ever heard someone witnessing... Sorry...

I've also seen some gory stuff, but on video, not live. The first time I've seen someone dead with my own eyes I was 18... Seen 4 people dead on the street or road on the past few months though... Perhaps it's God warning me that if I don't slow down when driving, I'm next.
