Here’s an update to the ending bits I’ve been playing with. Maybe these can work individually or be inspiration for other ideas.

I further tweaked the “just Rey” line, and added a more pronounced “t”.

I also added an updated version of the new end shot I’ve been messing with, which removes Rey and BB-8, instead having the falcon fly off into the binary sunset.

Finally, I tacked on the YouTube clip posted a few pages back that added Ben and Anakin force ghosts. I cropped out Anakin so you could see what the idea would look like. Not crazy about the head nod, but I think the idea of adding Ben will work.

Poppa does it again!!!

As per my usual of offering ‘constructive criticism’:-

Ben’s head/face needs some work.

I know it’s a result of the source…I think it’s from an old member ‘Forceghostrecon’? work.

I would say it’s worth looking for an alternative Adam Driver headshot to roto is here.

I’ll go hunting and see what I can bring to the table.

The removal of Anakin is a definite step forward.

I think as this edit is looking to reduce some fan service elements. Anakin is surplus to requirements.

This moment is about Rey, and Rey has no relationship to Anakin so his presence here would mean nothing to her on a personal level…and especially since we are also abandoning her taking up the Skywalker name too.

I really like the idea of the Falcon departing Tatooine too.

I wasn’t sure at first. I think the final shot of the movie was so beautiful and poetic that it was a shame to lose it…but if Poppa could polish up the Falcon so that it can be totally seamless/up to his usual quality I think there’s some real merit in the change.

  1. it clarifies that Rey wasn’t ever intending on staying on Tatooine

  2. Gives a literal ‘riding/flying off into the (twin) sunset’ moment to close out the saga.

I really like it!

As for the ‘just Rey’ change.

Masterful!!!

I echo what another member said…that the biggest problem that removing Rey taking on the Skywalker mantle causes, is that it makes the title of the movie pretty redundant.

Don’t get me wrong the actual execution in the original is pretty piss poor in itself but it does do just about enough to justify the connection.

That’s my only gripe though, as I do like that Rey has finally stopped yearning and accepted that she has made her own way to prominence/importance in the galaxy in spite of her actual family connections/lineage but without feeling the need to rewrite her own history and take on another identity/family name.

It’s a really good arc
