Right, now I follow, but as you can read here the set's differ, although it's the same transfer. As I said earlier, don't pin me down on the '78 thing, that's only what I thought he said. He'll be joining the discussion shortly, then you can hear exactly what it was that he showed me.

That's no moon. It's a LaserDisc.

The DC is of exactly the same vintage as Faces. The transfer is identical. If the master tape still existed, it'd probably have 'Definitive Collection / Faces Master Tape' written on it in Sharpie.

They may come from the same master but the video on them is not the same, see the split sabers images from the faces set in this thread:

The lightsaber is not like that on the definitive set.

I took that picture from my raw capture of the Definitive collection.

*confused* I thought it was just the Faces set that suffered split sabers?, my Definitive collection isn't like that:

IIRC you have the version without the 7 secs of Leia welding? my version has that intact, that may be why there's a lightsaber difference.

I know the Def. Coll. is sort of the "standard" dvd transfer, but has the below version ever been transferred, or compared with the Def/Faces sets? (esp. since it has a different audio mix)

Release Format: Laserdisc

Release Date: 1992

Studio: Fox Video

Technical Comments: 2.35:1 letterboxed transfer (corrected from the 1989 laserdisc)

Comments: The 1989 laserdisc was quietly reissued with the newly corrected letterboxed transfer, completely doing away with the "incredible shrinking ratio" problem. This release, pressed by Mitsubishi Japan, features the same catalog number as the 1989 release. So how can you tell the two apart? This corrected edition is released by "Fox Video." Coupled with the 1985 audio mix, this could very well likely be the best presentation of the film
We don't have enough road to get up to 88.

"The lightsaber is not like that on the definitive set. "

Don't forget that the Def. Col. set had a fixed release. Some sets have the split saber, some don't. The Japanese Faces set also has the split saber, despite coming from the same transfer.

MeBeJedi: Sadly, I believe the prequels are beyond repair.
JediRandy: They’re certainly beyond any repair you’re capable of making.

MeBeJedi: You aren’t one of us.
Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.

JediRandy: I won’t suck as much as a fan edit.

Oh man, just saw it on ebay! Wanted to bid, had to register, logged in and it was gone... The last bid was quite low, let's hope the seller puts it up again.

I think he was talking about this one. Judging by the 20th Century Fox Video label I'd say this is from 1982. I also highly doubt it's letterboxed.
Greedo shoots first? Not in my DVD player.
