I’m not sure, but I might do two versions: Rey Palpatine and Rey Nobody.
In Palpatine version, it’s sort of addressed by Kylo saying “you were right… your parents were no one… they chose to be to protect you.” It’s still a “certain point of view” thing. But her mother won’t say “she isn’t on Jakku she’s gone” because my version of TLJ doesn’t require them to die on Jakku.
In Nobody version, I think it’d have to be that they truly were drunkard deadbeats who get killed. Rey feels angry that her parents were killed in principle, even if they weren’t great. She probably still has a sense of wishing for them, even if it was always sort of wishful thinking on her part.
