I like the direction, I think the shield needs to be more subtle personally. Much softer and fades in and out subtlety. Having Yoda and Obi wan shots already sells it, so I vote more subtle shield!

Of better yet, have her with a force ghost glow effect. Still subtle though, the force ghosts already sell the idea they are helping some how.

The real MVP! All your work so far is awesome. I really like the force shield and the ghost aiding Rey in her defeat of Palapatine. However, I’m down for making it more subtle since that seems to be the general feedback. Keep killing it!

I am more certain of Rey having a slight glow (kinda force ghost but not as strong) over the shield. Been thinking about this in the back of my mind all day and I think that will be the best outcome to keep it subtle and really help the idea of the force ghosts “empowering her.”

Also, if anyone else is able to since I am more than useless when it comes to this kind of stuff … Changing the lighting redirect to either purple … or even yellow maybe to match Rey’s lightsaber at the end … would be nice too. It needs to be more than just a “simple” redirect … Either yellow or purple lighting being redirected would really seal it all up.

Now that I think about it, hahaha, it doesn’t make much sense to show a shield of force, because Palpatine’s rays pierce the shield hahahaha …
Maybe it would be better not to put a shield? and that the ghosts just push Rey

I agree, that might look better. I didn’t imagine the shield would work at first but I like it, it reminds me of the rough draft of the Return of the Jedi script.

The Emperor shoots lightning at Luke. Luke raises his hands in defense, but they are deflected by an invisible shield. Images of Ben and Yoda appear at the points of impact. Luke collapses under the strain.

Nondescript blue figures behind Rey that you only see when the lightning flashes. And then the Force shield when she deflects the lightning, and subtle flashes of the faces of Jedi appear over the shield, ala the early ROTJ draft.

That looks pretty good. I’m sure with some extra colour correction you can get the perfect colour for the crawl.
Excited to see how you execute the idea’s in the film.

35 or 50 look the best to me. I wonder how this would work on the Hayden ghost as it currently exists in ROTJ…

Yeah, I think keeping a subtle (but still noticeable) version of the shield might kind of handwave jokes/questions about why didn’t Mace Windu grab two lightsabers and downright disintegrate Palpatine’s face with the redirected lightning XD

Having Rey glow with a slight, ghost-y blue outline also conveys the idea that the Force spirits help her.

This is all very wonderful, but how do we justify this (and indeed the ‘interference’ of the ghosts in the original version of TROS) against Obi-Wan’s quote from ROTJ: “If you choose to face Vader, you will do it alone. I cannot interfere.”?

I think the answer lies with Rey’s “Be with me” chant. It seems like Rey tried to connect with the Force on a deeper level than Luke could in the OT, in order to commune with past Jedi she had never even met. Perhaps this connection she is trying to establish can allow for spirits to interfere with the material world, with Rey acting as a conduit.
