Rey stays on Ach-to with Luke until dusk: https://youtu.be/hmBVc0nXYnk
YouTube took it down. Interesting idea, though, I hope it’ll resurface.
Hal, I remember you or someone else here thought of changing the music that plays over the ending Rey Skywalker/Binary Sunset scene, as to avoid repeating the Force theme across three movies. Have you though of putting some version of Rey’s theme instead? I believe it might be the most fitting, because it reaffirms Rey’s identity above all else, and is very much the central musical theme of the sequel trilogy. I personally like this track (originally from TFA end credits): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1bJpmMwrabo.
Not the full theme, but some snippets of it, like that transition between the Force and Rey’s motifs. If you plan to end the scene with a fade to black, maybe the peaceful version of the SW main theme that plays at the end of the track could could fit better instead of a more bombastic piece, as it has much of a “final farewell” feel to it.
Nice idea! That would be a very nice way to end it. It sounds like if I can’t play with the audio or get it right, Dominic certainly will. 😉
That’s some very nice work. However, I think the only way I would actually want to use it as if it is so subtle that it’s almost hard to notice on the first viewing.
??? jedi ghosts v4…with anakin

This is some great stuff, I think if you made them seem more in the distance (maybe add some blur for distance) and only appear with the lightning strikes and then disappear in the shadows, it would sell the effect betterJedi ghosts advanced

I’m sold. That’s great! Unfortunate that Luke, Anakin, and Yoda’s footage is repurposed, but maybe I’m just too sensitive to that. Well, I know I am. Have you thought about aging Hayden a little?

For Yoda , it would be neat of you could use the shot from TLJ where he is looking down with his finger up, summoning the lightning. I think it would fit better in this context.

Yes, Unfortunate footage is repurposed, I have not found anything better … 😓
I don’t know how to age a face in a video

I’m going to do a test

The ghosts look magnificent! If something like this played out at the climax I would have walked out very happy with the film in spite of its shortcomings. And honestly, the fact they’re all repurposed footage will fly over most people’s minds, even fans. It isn’t immersion-breaking, and in fact having the Jedi ghosts appear is what someone watching the film for the first time would reasonably expect after hearing their voices first (I did, at least).
Perhaps you could add a soft glowing blue outline to the Jedi for the close ups, yet keeping the actual ghosts subtle otherwise.
Also other suggestion for the “brighter edition” could be add more stills/silhouettes of some of the other Jedi force ghosts involved (Qui-Gon, Windu, etc.) in the far background for the wide shot. I agree with having only Anakin, Obi-Wan, Yoda and Luke in the forefront, but it could be a nice touch to acknowledge the secondary ones.
Accidental double posting 😉
Usually I tend to not fiddle with the scores considering how phenomenal John Williams is, and while I thought his score here may have been his best in the trilogy, I do think that there were some missed opportunities in terms of music and themes in certain scenes. That’s why re-scoring some scenes seems to be a good thing to do.

One little nitpick: Luke looks like he is finished walking into position in the first shot, whereas the other three are standing firm.
I wonder if it might help just a little to mirror Anakin since he’s gazing to the right whereas Rey (and therefore sort of the ghosts) are established as being right of Palpatine.
The shot of Anakin is pretty static, perhaps the face aging could be done with a still or two using key frames. If so, I wonder what it’d be like to blend him with a young Sebastian Shaw (because there’ll be more footage to work with) and then aging that.
Easy for me to say, of course.

Hello! I had no intention of including more ghosts, but later if you want, I could do a version with more ghosts … but for now, I prefer to only include ghost for the original trilogy … I know, hayden is not from the trilogy original hahaha

i know… Do not try. Do it, or do not do it, but do not try, hahahah

It’s obviously up to you if you choose to make more alternative versions. It would be a nice treat for sure, but I’m more than pleased with the current version, so it’s fine if you leave it that way 😄

thank you!!!😊😊😊
and I’m going to perfect the blue outline !!!
I’m wondering if Leia should be there as well since she appears as a ghost at end of the film and arguably has a closer personal relationship with Rey than even Luke. I’m just not sure how you would balance the shot in that case.
Maybe put the focus on Luke and Leia and let the other ghosts be more of a background presence in the wide shot?
Maybe, you could have just the skywalkers behind Rey, Anakin front and centre, Luke on his right and Leia on his left.

You could play with the shot of Leia using the force in TLJ.

I like the idea of including leia
Hey, Hal. Just wanted to ask how my pitched scene restructure goes with your vision of this edit. I was also thinking about providing re-scores for moments in the film since we’ve been talking about doing this. Like Sam Kim’s Duel of the Fates and Battle of the Heroes mashup for the Death Star duel.

I’d prefer not to include Leia with the ghosts. Her body is still sitting on Jungleworld, but I think we can get away with just hearing her voice because that seems to come first, as with Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan. Kinda/sorta. Plus her appearance at the end is that much nicer to see.
Noah, I honestly haven’t had the time to do anything with that at all. If it fits in nicely, I think an underplayed, nonchoral allusion to DOTF would be cool for the duel, but not the whole piece, I don’t think. I don’t want to use Anakin vs Obi-Wan music either, as that seems paired closely with just that confrontation.
And let me just say, I’m really happy this community can come together around this. My edits would always have been garbage without you all, and I look forward to a sort of ‘Hal9000 Presents…’ final entry.

I understand. It’s your edit, you’re decisions, Hal. Take care.

Interestingly enough, according to jedipaxis, in an earlier cut the phantoms of Luke and Leia appeared in front of Palpatine and gave the finishing blow. You probably won’t go that route given that in your version Leia’s body stays in the jungle till the end, although a version with Leia’s ghost could be useful for other edits where her body disappears after Kylo’s vision with Han.

Yeah, that’d have been interesting and presumably her body wouldn’t have still been around.
I put nothing past all of us, of course.
first I will finish the version with anakin, luke, yoda and obi wan … and when I finish it, I will make other versions, for other fan edits 😃
I honestly forgot that Leia’s body stays around that long tbh. I should probably watch this movie again…
Jonh, seriously props to you for being so optimistic and generous with the feedback we’ve been giving you. I think this was something most people were hoping to see (I remember reading how many people online were hoping to see Anakin). I think if we can get a few solid versions of this, plus a few other major changes from some other editors around here, I think we can create a surprisingly different version of The Rise of Skywalker.
EDIT: If I had to nominate an extra Jedi to add, I wouldn’t say Leia since, like Hal said, her body is still on “Jungleworld” at this point. I would argue that you could put Qui-Gon on the far left, next to Anakin, though. I mean, he’s basically the reason all of them are even able to be force ghosts. Plus, we literally here Qui-Gon say “We stand behind you, Rey.”
Hell, if Rosario Dawson does end up showing up as Ahsoka in the Mandalorian, as rumors have been suggesting, I could see a future version of this with her standing there. That way you could have at least one female Jedi behind her.

I had the opposite idea: I rearranged tRoS’ final scene to better fit the music, and put Rey’s line at the very end, as if it’s what the music was building towards:
