Does anyone know if MS is going to keep this software free? Or are they going to charge for it? I want to deploy it in our agency network, but I can't find anything on the topic.

I wouldn't know, I never plan on using it.

Somehow, the idea of Microsoft created security program doesn't instill a great deal of confidence in me. I laughed when I first heard they were building it in the first place.

I'm happy with AdAware.

Actually, as with much of what MS does, the Anti-Spyware product was not their creation. They bought it from someone named Giant Anti-Spyware, I believe.

I think Ad-Aware is good, but I've seen that you need more than one in my experience. We use Ad-Aware and a product called SpyBot, in conjunction with an ad/cookie/web-bug filter and we still come up with junk in there. MS is good because they're currently offering real-time protection for free.

Although it's not exactly theirs - well, DOS and Windows are not theirs either - it's actually good. And by good, I mean "it works".
