Well, since a lot of folks read it I guess it's not the same as talking to yourself. Anyway, I find this subject pretty interesting too, but can't tell you anything about differences since I only have the Def. Col. on LD (early pressing: split sabres, missing the welding Leia). It did astound me how much better it looks straight off of the LD, then every single transfer so far (except for Moth3r's). That minor filtering everyone applies to make it fit on 4,37 GB really destroys detail, clarity and "liveliness". If your goal is to preserve it, you fail at the point where you alter the raw capture (by filtering, even by compressing). The filtering isn't necessary, but the compression is (when you're being reasonable) and it doen't have to leave noticeable traces: just use enough discs. At that point everyone starts about dual-layer discs, and about prices. I was discussing thes with Arnie.d last week, and he came with the solution: just use 2 single layer discs. Nothing wrong with that: the extended editions of LOTR are spread over two discs aswell, and this way you also preserve a bit of the LD feeling But ehh.. back to the topic!
