I used ITC Franklin Gothic on the Demi setting for the example I posted above.

This page has several Franklin Gothic examples. Thanks to codester for the link.

I found the Franklin Gothic Demi font in my Windows/Fonts directory. Not sure if it came with Windows or if it was installed as part of my WordPerfect Office Suite but it lists the font as OpenType so I would think that means that it is a free version of the ITC Franklin Gothic Demi font that you have to purchase. So here it is for those of you that don't have it.

I used to have the logo image up for everyone to use but took it down because it used up alot of my minimal webspace. I wish I could find it, as it was created from scratch and looked perfect.

It would be great if you could find it, not just for me but for others who want to use the original logo in DVD quality.

Good luck!

This may be the only thing left of it. I lost alot of stuff when my HDD decided to just start purging files last October, but maybe I have it on disk somewhere. I will continue to look.

I'll vector it up on the weekend and post it here in illustrator and eps format.

Yeah, it's really best if new LFL logos and long time ago logos are created because all the ones seen in BTS and LD stuff 'bounces' We need something that is true to the original, but up to snuff with today's DVD quality.

Thanks very much, Laserman. I suspect that this would be useful for many other people other than myself.

OK,

I didn't have illustrator on my notebook, so I did a quick and dirty by using the 2D tools in 3DS MAX.

This is just the curves, no fills or strokes.
It needs a bit more refining, but I've done all the hard work for you, just load it into your vector program of choice, tweak any bits that need it and stroke and fill it with the desired colour.

Oh yeah, it is in illustrator format (.ai), I saved it out of Max that way for compatability.

It's on Empire of Dreams before the original Star Wars crawl. It is a bit jumpy though.

Sorry for my ignorance- i can't get Adobe to load the AI file (or any other program).

Could someone tell me how to do it?

Unzip the file, go to Adobe Illustrator (A recentish version) and go to File/Open.
If using photoshop use file/Import - but it is a vector outline - not much good to you in photoshop.
You want to load it into illustrator (or freehand, or MAX or anything that loads vector files), and 'colour it in' and then you can export it as a bitmap file (i.e. a .tga, .jpg, .tga, .tif or whatever).

Or .tga. Don't forget that!

I'm also surprised that you'd suggest exporting as a JPG. Hmm... really? Compared to TIF, TGA, or PNG -- or even GIF, in this case? -- JPG is pretty much the wrong tool, isn't it?

I never used PNG for a long while, 'cause I didn't know what it was. Once I learned that it was lossless and compressed, I started using it when I would have used GIF in the past.

Would someone care to put a .PNG of a 720*480 sized logo based off of that .ai file?

Errm, I didn't forget .tga, it is right there in the message.

All I meant was export it to a bitmap style file if you want to use it in video software...
You will want to load it into a vector package first, and overlay it over the screengrabs here and touch up the curves a bit - I did a *very* quick job on it.

As for software to convert it to a bitmap.

You could download the 30 day trial of illustrator
http://www.adobe.com/products/tryadobe/main.jsp

You could download a free trial of Macromedia freehand
http://www.macromedia.com/downloads/

You could try inkscape http://www.inkscape.org/
or any of the other vector tools out there that are free, just give it a google.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention - you could also save it out as .tga if required.

Thanks very much for the files, Laserman- I really appreciate it.

Now, I just need to touch it up a bit, and I'm all set

I like PNGs also. They are great for going back and forth between DVD Lab Pro (which also does PSDs, for when I want to keep the layers) and Photoshop.

BTW, any of you guys every try .tga?

Or, perhaps it could be grabbed from the beginning of "Caravan of Courage". I ask because in my prequel edits, I intend to use the original logo. I would rather not just rip it from the OT because it is somewhat blurry and shakes around a bit. This way, I could have the logo in high-res and stable as well, for DVD quality.

Does anyone know of such an image?

Jus to let you know, the title card video for the Ewok films also is quite shaky as well. I know you are going to use the still image of it, this is just as a side note.
