You’d have to cut Maz’s line where she says the saber belonged to Luke and his father before him. It would also feel weird to have Kylo say that the lightsaber belongs to him, since it would be Luke’s personal saber and not the one passed down from Anakin (whom Kylo worships).

I wouldn’t have really had an issue with the saber being Luke’s green one from the beginning, but as it stands the blue saber is baked into the ST pretty effectively.

Yeah, Kylo would be an issue. Does he even actually acknowledge it as Anakin’s saber, though? It’s obviously implied that’s why he wants it, but now I think of it, there’s no particular reason why he would have ever seen that saber before. It was lost since before he was even born. I guess he recognised it from holotapes of Anakin, or Luke told him “Obi-Wan gave me this blue lightsaber that looked like a Graflex flashgun… (but he never did explain when exactly my dad told him to give it to me - before or after he got barbecued?)”. Plus, ‘Vader’ only used that saber for a few hours, whereas ‘Anakin’ and Luke used it for years, so it’s barely even a Vader artefact, really. Still though, you’re right that it would seem odd for him to claim ownership of Luke’s green saber.

You could still potentially have Luke’s green saber in TROS - the blue one did explode - though of course there’d be no way to explain how Rey got it, and it would also undermine the moment where Ben finally gets a good guy saber if it wasn’t the same one he had tried to force pull in TFA.
