The official Codester 'Ewoks' - animated tv series - release board (* unfinished project *)

 (Edited)

I am going to make my own VHS-rips of these episodes via DVD Recorder. This should exceed the quality of my former set by lightyears.

I am also adding kick ass menus to this set.

Right now, I am about 5% done with this project. It takes some time, and I hope the product will come out great.

I have already created a text file for this set, and I am getting the tapes in about a week or two.

I hope this set benefits the Star Wars community. Look for this set in alt.binaries.starwars as segaflip is posting it.

It may take around 1-2 months as I am busy with school shopping (I am only 13 right now), and hanging out with my friends. However, it will get done.

Also, an extras disc will be added for everyone’s Ewok enjoyment.

EDIT: No more widescreen release, this needs to be in it’s OAR.

Are you absolutely dead-set on converting them to letterbox? Changing the original aspect ratio (OAR) of a TV show or movie is the #1 cardinal sin for A/V purists (such as people who demand the Original Original Trilogy of Star Wars for example). If you are indeed dead-set on it, though, please at least consider making a second release that keeps the original 4:3 ratio of the show for those who disdain these kinds of changes...

Could you please explain why, exactly, you're choosing to change the intended framing of the series? Just because black bars look neat on 4:3 TVs and you won't have them at the side on a 16:9 display doesn't mean that that's beneficial at all. In fact, I find it pretty ridiculous.

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

Sorry codester, not a personal jibe, but that's idiotic. This forum is about preservation, NOT re-hashing which is what you intend to do. Please reconsider.

I will release a fullscreen set, instead. I see your points, and have decided to change this.

Codester, are you also considering doing a release of the droids series as well?
Author
Time
No, not right now. There is already a release of Droids out on DVD.

Right now, I am going to make a fullscreen and widescreen set. I may release the widescreen set, but that is still uncertain.

The fullscreen set will definately be released, but the quality is subpar.

I still need to encode all of the episodes so be patient and the DVD release will come.

EDIT: No more widescreen release, this needs to be in it's OAR.

Don't worry about sub-par (for even for DVD-R) quality. The only extant versions of the Ewoks series that I know of are ~70MB/ep 352x240 DivX3 VHS-rip encodes.

No, the official DVD release is far from complete. It's even less complete than the official Droids DVD release...

Ok, this project may be delayed a little as my monitor broke down on my computer. I now have to wait about a week or two to get my new monitor.

Never mind, my parents got a new and better one for free! They just looked around our churches donation house thing and found one. It is a Viewsonic M70B, and it is much better than my old one, and now I can update a screen resolution.

Ok, here is what I am going to do with this situation.

I will first release the widescreen set of this series with the supplemental disc.

Then if Citizen lets me borrow his Ewoks tapes, when I get a DVD Recorder (in 1-2 months), I will make a transfer of his tapes which will exceed my current fullscreen set by lightyears.

All in all, the whole fullscreen and widescreen set should be done in about 2-3 months with my widescreen set being released within the next 3 weeks.

EDIT: No more Widescreen release. Need this to be OAR.

I say don't even bother releasing the widescreen set (just keep it yourself) and only worry about distributing a 4:3 set. I doubt many (if any... Oh dang, now I've got Scribe in my head!) people here would want it, it is really the opposite of what most of us here are about.

Ooh, a laserdisc. The Cheat's playin' something on a laserdisc.
Everything is better on a laserdisc. Whatever happened to the laserdisc? Laserdisc!

Agreed. No OAR (original aspect ratio) = no download.
Author

No problem. I'll release the fullscreen set. I see your POV here, and I agree. A matter of fact, I am going to delete the converted widescreen files right now. NO WIDESCREEN, OAR!!!! Now, I just need about $50 more, and I will purchase this DVD Recorder. I will then, make my own transfer if I can get the tapes.

On the Ewoks release, are you using the official DVD release as part of the project. I mean, are you going to edit in video from the offcial dvd release?

I originally posted this in general star wars discussion but since no one has read that thread, the one where codester asked what to include on the bonus disc. Here goes:

how about the original overseas theatrical trailers for an ewok adventure: Caravan of Courage, and the battle for endor shown in theaters on the big screen (only internationallly just like these shows were. One time a guy was selling them on ebay as film reel trailers in widescreen, which these trailers were. Never seen them so don't know if it was fake cropped widescreen, i know they were shot on 35mm film in fullscreen. Don't know if there is anyplace online they can be downloaded.

Sounds like good bonus items. He should use whatever obscure footage he can find relating to the series, or ewoks.

I may do it. However, I am not too sure. It sounds like it may work.

Good thing I can get these at Walmart instead of getting them off Amazon. It makes like so much easier.

Yeah. To rip the video, i suggest the program from this site, it's the one called MPEG video wizard:

Thanks! I'll definately use this to edit the video when I capture through a DVD Recorder then rip the vobs through Decrypter, so I can add sweet menus and such to the DVD.

Also, concerning the extras disc, I am going to add an Ewoks commercial that is on the Rarities DVD. I will also add another Ewoks commercial to the disc that I found.
