I personally think Rey Palpatine needs to go. I couldn’t care less what the canon says.

The question then becomes, what could replace it as Rey’s main character conflict? I think the 3 best options are:

Palpatine killed Rey’s parents, and she wants revenge.
Rey accidentally killed her parents, causing a conflict over her inner darkness.
Nothing happened to Rey’s parents, play up the Dark Rey vision sequences instead.

Option 1 is probably the easiest, given that not much would have to be changed. Option 3 is the second easiest, although it might result in a lot of footage being cut. Option 2 is the most difficult, although the payoff might be worth the extra VFX work.

Either way, I hope we find a good solution soon. Fixing Rey’s story is the main editing request I have for this movie.
