Help with cleaning up LaserDisc audio for restoration

I’m working on a restoration, and the print we have has a mono mix, and it sounds pretty bad to be honest. It also has many missing pieces of audio near reel changes. There is also a LaserDisc rip I have of the same mono mix, but with better audio. We would like to use the LD audio as the better source, but it still needs a bit of massaging before it sounds acceptable. Is anyone able to do this? I can provide the LD rip audio. Thanks!

I am guessing that your rip is in Mkv format, so you likely want to use MKVToolNix https://mkvtoolnix.download/ to separate the video and audio files. Watch video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aa1VYQ-irWs
once you have the audio file you should be able to clean it up. with an audio editor https://www.fosshub.com/Audio-Editors.html, I like Audacity. video how to remove noise in Audacity https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gnEWfAEONTA
video Audacity Tutorial: Converting Between Stereo & Mono Audio https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4_Esbzz0DQ
You would then use MKVToolNix to combine the video and audio in one file. If you need to transcode between file formats I would use ether HandBrake or Xmedia Recode https://handbrake.fr/ https://www.xmedia-recode.de/en/
