I like the creativity of this idea, but if the base were home to a large civilian population, it would cast the Resistance in a pretty terrible light to nuke the whole thing.
But what if they don’t nuke the whole thing? I actually think it would be a good idea to keep Starkiller Base as a threat throughout the entire trilogy, explaining why the remnants of the New Republic don’t rise up against the First Order.
