A little out there but maybe they are saving the deleted scenes for a re-release of an extended cut?
Alternatively the deleted scenes could be on the film disk instead of the bonus features disc.

Was the track “The Last Saber Duel” used at all during that battle? I assume it was meant for that scene? I think it would be interesting to take snippets from Duel of the Fates, Battle of the Heroes, and The Last Saber Duel. I think a combination of those tracks would be fun to hear.

I believe it was, yes. Not sure if in full, though definitely the majority of it was (it comes in during the final stage of the duel when Kylo walks through the crashing waves I think).

Personally I agree with Williams that it was right to cut the music during the duel. As it’s edited, it’s pretty short so it’d feel odd if it was accompanied with an epic, climactic cue like Duel of the Fates. But I’d still be curious to see how it played with that music.

I do agree with that to an extent. I think the choirs from either track would be a bit too much, but I think hearing the strings from Duel of the Fates, or the horns from Battle of the Heroes, could be a nice nod.

I was thinking the same thing. There is a 1min trailer on Youtube for the home video release and I feel like there is new footage in it. But it could be my imagination as I only saw the movie once and that was 2 months ago.

Also, don’t forget Batman v Superman got an extended edition two months after the release of home video. The same thing could happen with TROS.

Yeah I think you’re right, it would feel odd. But maybe a variation, something more subtle. Now that I think about it, they did use the first lyrics of the choir when they introduced the Sith cultists

Something subtle like the duel of the fates used for Maul in SOLO could work.

Hahaha, I was literally just reading those.

I still haven’t thought of a satisfying way to handle Palpatine. On one hand, you could replace the Pickled Snokes with Pickled Palpatines to make him being a clone very obvious. In the film itself, I was under the impression that the Sith cult recovered his “broken body” from the wreckage of the Death Star, and frankenstein’d it back together.

I think either way, the implication is that his spirit is basically latched onto the body, clone or otherwise, until he finds a more sustainable vessel.

Honestly I don’t know which I prefer. I wish there was a way to make the idea of his spirit being just latched to his body a bit clearer.

I also wish there was some way to depict Palpatine’s spirit being destroyed by the Force ghosts after Rey destroys his body.

EDIT: I definitely think the film implies that Palpatine did die, and that he was either resurrected or his spirit is merely latched onto his body, but I could see the option of somehow implying his survival has something to do with the World Between Worlds. That maybe Snoke, or other Sith Cultists, saved Palpatine from dying on the Death Star by pulling him through as he fell. When Kylo touches Vader’s helmet, maybe Kylo could see a brief glimpse of a World Between Worlds portal or something.

Im now of the opinion that JJ had no clue what the explanation for his return was, throwing possible answers here and there but not sticking to one ex: random rebel “cloning, dark magic, secrets only the sith knew” (classic jj), early leaks stated that palps revealed to kylo that his body actually survived the fall so I guess they only decided on the explanation after the film was released and snuck it in to the novelisation.
Sigh

Truthfully I think they knew (rightly) that no explanation would really satisfy anyone so better to not waste time and leave it mysterious. The problem isn’t that they didn’t explain it, the problem is that they did it at all.

Problem is they ended up explaining it.
In a book…

Who cares? The explanation doesn’t change anything, whether it’s in a book or the movie.

Ah I misread your comment, The way they addressed it is so half arsed and contrived that yes it would have been better if left ambiguous.

It should not be that surprising from a movie done by the same director that earlier gave you a movie with Luke’s recovered lightsaber…and even included a chiding scene where a character says that the backstory for that is ''for another time." Or that the original idea for the opening of TFA was Luke’s hand clutching the saber floating through space.

Snooker, that looks great! It totally looks like it could be a real still from the movie.

It’s literally confirmed within the film itself. Palpatine tells Kylo that “he has died before”.

The unfortunate reality of the Star Wars prequel and Disney trilogies is that they will always be around. Forever. They will never go away. It can never be undone.

I also prefer to be referred to as “TNT”, not “Freezing”.

I thought it just meant that he got resurrected in some Sith ritual or something, not that he was a clone

I thought the book said that his body was cloned but it’s still Palpatine’s spirit? So it’s still technically Palpatine?

In the original cut of the film his spirit latched on to his dead corps but it could no longer contain him, he needed kylo to bring him Rey so that he could feed off of the dyad, he posed himself as a dying man who wanted to pass off his empire to kylo And Rey but would later reveal later reveal his masterplan in the climax of the film. This was apparently changed late in the game to give Kylo more agency by making him the only one that knew of the dyad but this change sacrificed palpatines cunning and turned him into a Bmovie villian

Just skimmed through the TROS visual dictionary and lo and behold it explicitly says that the Sith loyalists took Palpatines body to Exogol and through “Science and occult” they brought him back to life.
Lucasfilm can’t decide which is it, clone or alive?
What happened to “an interconnected and consistent Canon”.
Such a shame, they’ve just thrown in the towel I guess.
