The Prequel Trilogy Revised - concept trailers released (WIP) — Page 6

Hello there,

I’ve recently reviewed this thread and find parts of it pretty fascinating. I am all for enhancing things, scenes or whatnot, especially “updating” the look of things. I see that Adywan is an inspiration in this matter and I do love his approach on enhancing established shots. For you I like the enhancing of planets, engine glowing and eventually working on shadows and some of the weakest CGI scenes. The biggest glaring one I see is the Gungan retreat scene and the tanks moving on the field. Anyway, things like that if you can work on those hots to look better, to the best of your abilities.

However, I myself am not sold on a couple of things. Like the force push effect … looks kinda silly to be honest. Also the bombing of Naboo doesn’t work for me too. I feel like it’ll be a lot of work with not much payoff.

@TheAlaskanSandman Do you plan on removing that “Force speed” scene entirely in The Phantom Menace? This power only exists just to get Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon to escape, and is never used ever again.

The unfortunate reality of the Star Wars prequel and Disney trilogies is that they will always be around. Forever. They will never go away. It can never be undone.

I also prefer to be referred to as “TNT”, not “Freezing”.

The force push will get pulled out. Was just trying some stuff to see how people felt about it, whether the idea or the implementation. I do plan on fixing all of those the best i can. Some things i would like to learn Blender to do properly. I want the cgi to not be so flat and clean.
As far as the Attack on Theed, are you referring to the Purist Cut trailer or the other trailers? The Purist Cut will only have scenes from the movie, no new scenes. If those scenes in that trailer are what you mean lmk. If you mean the other ones, yes they need work and likely wont make the final version. I would like to try to use Blender instead for those scenes to pull off what i really want.
Feel free to give completely honest input, i really appreciate it. I would like to make these as good as possible

Not from the Purist Cut. Though ill try it for the Revised Cut if its something the community doesn’t like. Im sure it’s an easy cut

I should add that ATOC and ROTS are not being begun till the 4k releases. TPM will also be redone in 4k. Im simply doing the bluray of TPM because i’ve already begun and it’s a chance to learn things and id like to get a work print out to hash out ideas. Its a passion project so its going to take time, im ok with that 😃

Hey Sandman! when it came to “improving” scenes, such as what you are doing with shadows and whatnot, I was really referring to the battle between the Gunkens and the droids, the “distraction” battle. During the retreat scenes, the visuals for the CGI was just so bad. So I was curious if anyone has ever attempted to try and improve those visually. I have no idea how, but those scenes in the movie were the really “glaring” visuals where for the most part the CG wasn’t too bad for back in 99.

Sounds fantastic. Let me know if you’d like a hand with the blender side of things. I’m no expert but I know my way around it — see my OT.com vanity plate.

I absolutely would be interested! I have not even begun yet with Blender so im less than familiar. After Effects was an easy leap due to time spent with Adobe Photoshop. Im a musician and artist, not a tech guy so i would appreciate any and all help.

To be frank. Im in no way territorial about my work. If i could work with others to bring these to fruition and to a quality thats above what i could do alone, i would welcome it.

Oh ok. Yea i know what you mean. They used models for much of that, but the way its all blended together still looks off. The cgi for the gun gun’s blending in definitely is one thing. This is one of the things i would like Blender for. That and creating a couple blocks of Theed to have fighter pilots cutting through buildings as they dog fight. (which is why i want ground shots of civilians. Like one of some people looking up to the sky as the pilots fly over head. This would be for the Attack of Theed).

The scenes that i want Blender for include Gungun/ JarJar scenes (including field battle) and the Attack on Theed run. At least for TPM.
ATOC- I would like to redo the chase in the beginning and the Battle on Geonosis. Among other shots like the library and more.
First though, Tpm.

The main problem I have with getting rid of Midichlorians is that Palpatine mentioned them in the middle of a long shot when he was telling Anakin about the tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise. How is it even possible to seamlessly edit out “Midichlorians” from this long shot that slowly zooms in?

https://youtu.be/05dT34hGRdg

I did a cut a while back and made it work decently as “he could use the force to create life”. It was a little jarring but worked okay. Wish I still had the clip.

Holy crap, was that the one where you redid the scrolls in blue? I used them as a base for old edits of mine and just recently came across the disks.

The blue font sounds familiar. stands out in my head.

Theres some scenes involving the planet that are giving me a pain. Like one, the planets x axis is upright around 45 degrees on its left side. Mean while the planet im over lapping comes into frame and zooms in a weird way. I was trying to match using the camera controls but its proving to be a pain. So i think i’ve gotta close all the other layers and export the planet as a video, then bring it back in and track it to the original planet with the 3d tracker.

(I also spit out a quick copy of The Avengers Infinity War/Endgame in a 4hr cut. Couldn’t help it.)

This project is very very interesting. I have done some effects in After Effects myself and with the things you are planning to do + Blender stuff, this project can easily rival Adywan’s timetable to the finish line. I love that the prequels are getting this much care though, so they can be up to bar with the Revisited.

I wish the purist version would have the Naboo invasion without the extra flames. I love the planet so much, it’s painful to see it half destroyed right away. 😃 So the purist version could be only polished effects and more radical stuff left to other versions. Your call of cource Sandman…

The only reason ill potentially finish before Ady is because Ady is doing much more work than i am. Models, actors, props, etc. I would love to go as far as him tho.

If your curious, a User named Snooker has a project for the prequels that’s doing some overhauling too.

That is a thought with the city, but idk just yet. I could save it for my Revised versions. Im currently trying to learn Blender, and finish up the planet effects. Work and such gets in the way a lot too, and i don’t want to rush anything. A lot is done tho.

An Idea: In TPM balcony scene with Sidious and Maul, I think the background should be tried to be changed into the worn down industrial area seen in the end of AOTC where Dooku meets Sidious. I think that would make most sense. It’s ridiculous that Palps struts around as Sidious in his senator apartment.

Also, could you share how are you doing the weather effects (dust, lightning, rain) seen in trailers, what effects pack are you using?

Been tied up with some other stuff and the whole Corona stuff but was able to finally lock down the planet effect and get it to track properly for the shots with weird camera angles. The planet was created in the file with the movie edits, which was composed of many layers. So moving them all in synch and to the camera angles was giving me a pain. I was trying to export a video of the planet out so i could reincorporate it that way via the 3d camera tracker, but was having issues exporting it for some reason (I still don’t know why). Either way though, i got the planet to export with out freezing my computer up and am finishing up those scenes currently and should have a video posted soon. Just masking back in the ships and everything over the planet. After that, the entire intro section should all be done aside from a new intro crawl which ill have to do with Blender (Some one already did a file for use with proper dimensions and fading of the script).
I’ve got blocks of the movie done, so im trying to move through it from front to finish to wrap up everything else that needs to be. Still a few more scenes with a lot of work though.

@Dazman You’d have to change the whole balcony as that’s what’s identifiable later as being part of Palpy’s office. And its just a robe that he’s wearing, nothing that would alert any one who would see him in it. It’s not like they knew who Sidious was at the time, or even suspected him. Suspicion of his presence doesn’t even become a thing till the end of TPM when Yoda and Mace are discussing it.
As far as the effects, just scraping the internet all over for free green screen effects. Just dont go for anything thats not in hd.

The Purist Cut HD TPM

Prequels Revised Trailer 3 - Music mix by Samuel Kim

Replaced the planet in all the scenes up to the Escape of Naboo, so all scenes of the planet in the trailers are replaced. Still some cleaning up to do and balancing but a better look at how its coming along. Purist cut trailer is in 1080p, the Prequel trailer is in 720p still due to scenes for Ep 2 and 3 originally being done in 720p. They’ll be redone when i get to those movies. It is mixed out as 1080p though since its mixed with 1080p scenes. So if you play it you can set each to 1080p.
