Done the scanning. I scanned the three-panel fold-out insert, plus the front and back of the box. I found that at 300dpi, I still got weird moire-induced banding. So I scanned everything at 400dpi. Way overkill, but whatever. I saved each of the 15 or so scans it took (lots of overlap, for easy stitching) as PNG files.

While I have a captive audience, let me remind you all once again that JPG is crap at things like white text on a black background; it was designed for photos, and photos are really the only thing JPG is good for. For anything else (text, solid colours, line art -- in other words, a lot of the stuff that ends up on a DVD cover) a compressed-but-lossless file format like PNG or TIF is much better. And, in some instances, a lossless format can actually be smaller than a lossless JPG of the same thing!
