Unusual Sequel Trilogy Radical Redux Ideas Thread — Page 29

I have an idea for an edit for The Last Jedi: continuing off of any edits of The Force Awakens that end with the Millennium Falcon leaving D’Qar and heading to Ahch-To, we should cut to the Falcon travelling in hyperspace and arriving at Ahch-To after Finn asks Poe about Rey, instead of cutting to Rey giving Luke the Skywalker lightsaber. It makes the transition from The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi less confusing, and allows for at least a few hours to pass in-between the films rather than having The Last Jedi take place immediately after The Force Awakens.

The unfortunate reality of the Star Wars prequel and Disney trilogies is that they will always be around. Forever. They will never go away. It can never be undone.

I also prefer to be referred to as “TNT”, not “Freezing”.

There are a good few edits that do that.

Can you link the pages for these edits?

One of my personal favourite TLJ edits but the editor was unfortunately banned.
I will send you a PM.

In canon (Age of Resistance: Rey comic), Rey goes on a whole adventure of her own - taking at least a few hours - in between leaving D’Qar and arriving on Ahch To. So there’s already kind of a few hours in there - just long enough for the First Order to swap all of its helmets, no doubt.

Most fan edits always ignore external source materials. Also, casual moviegoers shouldn’t have to read external source materials or watch obscure TV shows in order to understand a movie on its own, that’s why the Darth Maul scene in Solo: A Star Wars Story was confusing for those who never watched The Clone Wars.

The Maul scene was confusing even to those who had seen the shows. It’s just such a bizarre inclusion that doesn’t really have anywhere to go.

And how would this change be accomplished, practically speaking?

Like I said, just have Sidious call him Darth Something at some point and that’s it. It’s not complicated, really. The line could replace “I made Snoke”. Something like “Darth Rifficus served his purpose.” Just need a good impressionist or some lines we can take from elsewhere. There’s no shortage of Palpatine saying the word Darth. Hell, you could even just have him say “I made Darth Snoke”.

Here’s an idea for the throne room scene in the climax of TROS.

Ben makes his way down to the sith temple and eventually fights his way to the throne room and joins with Rey in a face off with Palpatine in what looked like a setup for an epic final duel, unfortunately Ben proceeds to get yeeted down in an anti-climactic, dare I say comedic fashion.

What if we integrated the fight against the praetorian guards from TLJ here, with Palpatine observing from The throne. The battle could potentially end the same way as TROS or you can go another route, alternativley most of the Throne room scene from TLJ could be integrated, have Kylo bring Rey to palps like the original TROS script where at the beginning palpatine promises Kylo that he will rule with Rey as emperor and empress, have palpatine in awe of the power of the dyad standing before him and declare that it was all a trap (“you’re coming together will be your undoing, this will be the final word in the story of skywalker”) and then have both Rey and Kylo Ignite their sabers against the praetorian guards and the battle begins.

Although it is ambitious I think it is doable with some VFX, colour correction and rotoscope, with some added wizardry.

I have an idea: “remove” Admiral Ackbar entirely from The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, since he literally does nothing before getting killed off in The Last Jedi. You can just color-correct him, alter or redub his voice, and/or remove all mentions of his name.

Because there was no point in adding him into the trilogy if he was going to be killed off in the second installment after barely getting to appear on-screen.

This is why I don’t get why people wanted him doing the lightspeed kamikaze. Holdo was an actual character with an arc. Ackbar was a funny looking background alien.

If there was no point in adding him, what’s the point in removing him?

Are you going to remove Nien Numb too? He barely gets any screen time.

I agree with you about Ackbar but this is where I draw the line. Holdo is barely a character and does not have an “arc.”

Exactly. She only appears in one movie.

She only appears in one movie, yet we know more about her than we do Admiral Ackbar. I agree that she doesn’t have a complete character arc, but she’s far more developed in TLJ than Admiral Ackbar ever was in ROTJ. She helps give characterization to one of our main protagonists and she has a very direct impact on story and plot.

So I would argue that she is a character while Ackbar is not.

Apparently Walmart posted a listing for the Rise of Skywalker 3D blu ray saying that it will release on April 13, so I’m guessing it will be around then when we find out what deleted scenes we’ll get.

Author

I doubt that whatever deleted scenes we get with the initial bluray release is all we’ll get. They’ll undoubtedly be saving some stuff for the complete saga box set.

You mean the set that’s coming out on the same day as the standalone release?

Maybe some will be 3D exclusive, some online only, some Disney Plus exclusive, a few saved for the 2027 50th Anniversary 8k boxset… And we’ll never see some of them. AOTC and ROTS still have unreleased deleted scenes (scripted and filmed, and included in the comic and novelisation) 15 years later. We didn’t see that scene with Luke building his saber from ROTJ for what, 27 years or something? The Lucasfilm archives must house many unique artefacts. Perhaps we’ll see a few more when Lucas opens his museum.

I didn’t realize the complete saga was coming out the same day. lol I assumed they’d save that for the holiday season.

Please tell me all about them. I find it incredible that to this day I’m still finding new deleted scenes for RotS. I guess that makes sense given the first cut was apparently four hours. God, I can just imagine how awful that middle section must be to sit through at that length.
