Just wanted to share some more ideas on an extended epilogue for the film.
I’ve mentioned this before, but I think it would be cool to get a brief epilogue that shows what the main characters are up to after their celebration at the Resistance base. I think having three brief sequences (including Tatooine) would be fitting.
I’ve thrown out some more ambitious ideas before but I’m going to try to suggest something a little simpler. I think they are doable because members on here have already done similar shots, one way or another.
The first sequence would pan down like ANH to a lush green world, antithetical to Tatooine. The Falcon flies overhead. We cut to the surface and see Chewbacca looking at a hut in the trees as we hear Wookiee roars in the distance. This is Kashyyyk, and Chewie has family come home. (This would likely be one of the more difficult shots to make, but I think the best option would be to get some high quality plates from the Kashyyyk map from Battlefront 2) Coming home after a war is a pretty standard trope for war movies, and if anyone deserves to go home after decades of fighting it is Chewie. Since Han, Leia and Luke have all passed away, I think it would be nice to see Chewie go home and have a happily ever after. Then we could get a shot of the Falcon flying away from Kashyyyk, similar to this shot by Petrovelly. This would probably be one of the harder sequences to make it feel seamless, but I think it would be a fitting way to end Chewie’s story.
Then we wipe to a shot of the Tantive IV flying toward Coruscant. If the previous sequence repeats the opening of ANH, we won’t repeat it here. Instead, we could repeat the opening shot from TPM. The Tantive IV could fly toward Coruscant and we could PAN LEFT following it to the planet. Again, Petrovelly has made a nice shot using a Tantive IV model, and we could implement something similar. We cut to inside the ship, and get a shot of Poe and Finn sitting inside. We could mask them out of different shots from the movies and place them here, similar to what snooker has done before in this test shot she did of Leia for a ROTJ edit she was working on back in 2018. (Hope you don’t mind me resharing it, snooker!)
This technique could also be used for Chewie on Kashyyyk. As for the Finn and Poe scene, the idea is rather simple, but it could imply they are going to Coruscant to start helping reestablish the Republic, and right the wrongs of the First Order. I originally had an idea of a shot also including a First Order Star Destroyer, but I can’t find any good models online for a resurgent. At least we know there are decent models of the Falcon and the Tantive IV. If the scene was too vague, maybe some comm voice over could be added to the cockpit to infer some kind of conclusion to the political story. Maybe the First Order has surrendered on order of the Supreme Leader, something like that.
I also had an idea of having R2 and 3PO be with Rey at the end on Tatooine, but if that proved to be too difficult, having them be on roaming the corridor of the Tantive IV might be a good place for their story to end as well, back where they started. You could even have a similar line where 3PO could mention that this place looks familiar, if you could find a line that fits with that idea. You could either reuse footage from the end of ROTS or from ANH, or insert TROS R2 and 3PO into Tantive IV corridor shots.
Then, of course, you end with a version of the Tatooine scene. I suppose this is still rather ambitious, but the techniques needed to create all of these shots have already been done before my members on this forum, so I think it is doable.
