I'm completely out of the loop on this whole torrent thing....and how to use sites such as myspleen.com. Can someone explain this stuff to me?

Also, why do some people on here post things but then require passwords to access their site to download it?

My Spleen requires regestration to control leechers, that's all. Basically, it to get people to agree to share. Bittorrent is the most painfully simple programs in the P2P group. All you have to do is install a client(I recommend Azureus or BitTornado, though any none base program is great), click the link, and the download is just like clicking a web based file. It's not hard at all, and much better than eMule, and simpler than DC++ and IRC.

Thanks Klingon, I'll check it out when I get the chance. Here's a question though: Do bit torrent downloads have as good quality as a burned DVD-R all other things being equal?

Torrents are merely a sharing format. What you get over a torrent is exactly what you get had you used Kazaa-lite or IRC.

I understand that, Klingon, but just like MP3's are close to CD quality but not quite, is there a similar situation in the format the video is saved in the torrent as opposed to how it is burned to the DVD?

Yes. XviD is MPEG-4; DVDs are MPEG-2; and the encoding is lossy.

I guess I'll get everything on disc through the mail then. It's bad enough we're reduced to watching transfers of old LDs, we don't need any further loss in quality.
