I’ve been doing some worldbuilding, and here’s what I’ve got nailed down for the SWS:RE Universe:

  • The setting is our own Milky Way, some 25,000 years into the future.
  • Earth has either been abandoned/forgotten or become the city-planet Had Abbadon.
  • The Galactic Republic is 10,000-18,000 years old and spans a million worlds.
  • The known galaxy spans 25% of the Milky Way.
  • Excluding genetically divergent subspecies, just over three dozen sapient races inhabit the known galaxy.
  • Though not particularly speciesist, the Galactic Republic is an almost entirely human/near-human domain. There are very few member worlds with significant non-human populations, and human/non-human admixture is almost unheard of outside the Outer Rim territories.
  • Strong AI doesn’t exist. “Thinking machines” are actually cyborgs — robot bodies controlled by cultured organic brains.
  • Manned fightercraft are considered archaic and hopelessly cumbersome in modern warfare. Armed forces tend to use either remote-controlled fighters or robot fighters in combat. Remote-controlled fighters have some advantage over robots, as an organic pilot can outwit the weak AI of robot fighters. However, in the event that a remote-controlled fighter is heavily damaged or destroyed, feedback through the neural interface can kill or brain-damage the organic controller.
  • Lightsabers are entirely mystical, non-technological weapons which can only be constructed and ignited by trained Force adepts. At the heart of every lightsaber is a kyber crystal, the colour of which is shaped by the psyche/preferences of the adept who meditates over it. The blade of a lightsaber is paper-thin, with monomolecular edges. They don’t generate heat, but cut through almost any material by severing covalent bonds.
  • Force-sensitivity isn’t genetic; it cannot be inherited patrilineally, and clones of Force-sensitives will not inherit their template’s Force-sensitivity. However, Force-sensitivity is often passed on matrilineally. And if one child in a set of twins (identical or fraternal) is Force-sensitive, their sibling(s) are invariably Force-sensitive as well.
  • All space flight and space combat is in three dimensions.
  • Single-biome worlds capable of supporting complex life are rare and often marginally habitable. Life on Hoth is limited to the equator, life on Tatooine to the poles, etc.
  • Hyperspace travel is relatively slow. Travel between Tatooine and Alderaan — both Outer Rim planets — takes five days along a good hyperlane.

Overall: very, very good. Jedi actually fly starfighters physically though, yes? It makes them unique right?

Not as a matter of routine; I imagine the Jedi would be relatively few even before the Jedi Purge, so most wouldn’t make themselves a target in the middle of a war zone. But there’d be scouts and the like with personal fighters.

Gotcha. Kudos for the slow hyperspace travel too. It always bugged me about how fast hyperspace seemed to become with the prequels. Looks like you will need to re-design X-Wings with toilets though; it’s more than a few hours from Hoth to Dagobah I’ll bet!

LOL. I think I’d reimagine Luke’s X-wing as a shuttle.

New idea: Forget the trilogy of trilogies idea; make the Reconstructed Saga a multi-episode series instead. Like TCW, only more focused.

I’ve decided against pursuing a full SW Saga rewrite, and will be cancelling my Ep. I rewrite currently in process. I spent almost a decade working on Star Wars screenplays, and I really don’t want to spend another; I have other stories I’ve pushed aside, and I want to recommit myself to them.

I’m not abandoning the Reconstructed Saga totally; I’m going to continue developing and fleshing my ideas out in this thread, and once I’ve a cohesive narrative in place, I’ll write story treatments. But that’s as far as I’m willing to go from this point forward.

This seems like it could be great. The inconsistencies in Star Wars always bugged me. It would be cool if multiple galactic Republics/Empires had risen and fallen though. Not 1,000 generations of utopia. Maybe the Galactic Republic should be like a space Holy Roman Empire all decentralized and the the Galactic Empire should be the first centralized Galactic super-entity ever like the Meiji Restoration. I guess my own Prequel rewrite can be like that lol

Everything after Empire Strikes Back is shit.

What happens to the Republic after Ruusan? Any wars?

Everything after Empire Strikes Back is shit.

No fullscale wars, no. The Republic becomes complacent and slovenly in the centuries after the New Sith Wars, which leads to the growth of crime syndicates and localized conflicts between individual planets/systems. This is what ultimately causes the Clone Wars.

I went with there being multiple Jedi sects in my last rewrite, but decided against that this time around. This time, there’s just one Jedi Order — a Jedi Order divided between honest, good Jedi like Obi-Wan and corrupt, statist Jedi. After Palpatine’s rise to power, the fallen Jedi assist the Empire in wiping the others out. As the Jedi Purge is winding down, the Jedi Council decides they’d rather run the Empire instead of following Palpatine and stage a coup, which end’s disasterously for them.

And Leia definitely isn’t Luke’s sister.

I actually have my own Science Fantasy/Space Western/Samurai universe that’s a bit more dark and very world-building intensive than Star Wars(I wrote it since I was tired of the inconsistancy in Star Wars as a matter of fact). I have the beginning of a story written (with a lot of Seven Samurai inspiration/rip off though I plan to diverge heavily as it goes on)but I don’t know if this forum would be the right place to post it since it’s not really Star Wars.

Everything after Empire Strikes Back is shit.

@DuracellEnergizer Do you plan on having it so your prequel trilogy rewrites won’t recycle key elements, plot points, and tropes from the original trilogy (e.g. the main hero getting his hand cut off by a villain, the exact same character pleading another family member to join him and rule the galaxy together, etc.)?

The unfortunate reality of the Star Wars prequel and Disney trilogies is that they will always be around. Forever. They will never go away. It can never be undone.

I also prefer to be referred to as “TNT”, not “Freezing”.

I’m going to avoid redundancy and Lucas-style “rhyming” whenever possible.

I know that you’re not going to rewrite the sequel trilogy for this series of rewrites because you’re only doing Lucas’ films, but do you plan on rewriting the sequels in a way that doesn’t have anything to do with this “streamlined saga”? (you know what I mean)

I actually changed my mind on the ST. As with the PT portion of this reimagining, my reimagined ST will be radically different from Disney’s.
