Rumor: COUNTDOWN to 'The Rise of Skywalker' - EXTENDED CUT... — Page 3

He walked that back by saying he meant what they wrote for those scenes was apparently too taxing for the VFX team to make real that they cut them before ever sending them over.

He’s probably referring to the extended Luke and Leia flashback scene.

No, he was specifically talking about the Rose/Leia stuff.

He gave the initial interview, and people got upset because he made it sound like Rose lost screentime because of Leia’s VFX work.

Then he gave the clarificaton, which didn’t actually make anyone less upset, because he basically said they didn’t even give her those scenes to shoot with “Leia” in the first place, they cut them at the script stage.

His walk back sounded fake to me. Regardless, if there are Leia scenes that were cut because they didn’t look good, they probably wouldn’t want to release them. But that’s not to say there’ll be no Leia deleted scenes released. There’s at least one shot of her in the trailers that wasn’t used (and looks pretty good). My guess is it was her saying MTFBWY to Rey before she left for Pasaana. Likely just cut for pacing.

It’s hard to say at this point though.

The one thing I worry about regarding not getting the Oracle scene would be that whatever his lines were related to plot threads that don’t exist in the theatrical film. I don’t think they will release deleted scenes that reference plot points that were later changed.

I will say, if it’s true that it was still in the film as late as November, I doubt at that point it referenced much that was significantly changed, considering the film locked later that month.

Unless they go all out in a BTS documentary walking through all changes through production but I doubt that will ever happen with the squeaky clean image Disney is “trying” to portray.

That’s not a Disney thing, really - that sort of thing almost never happens at any studio. And if it does, it only happens DECADES later.

Part of the reason “The Beginning” was so remarkable back in 2001 was because people DIDN’T do that for new movies. And Lucasfilm never really did it again, either. And “The Beginning” was still somewhat sanitized.

People love behind-the-scenes drama - but the people who have to still work in the industry once the drama is over don’t love it very much, and they don’t love having a salable version of it available at will for consumers to memorize, either. So those sorts of “warts ‘n’ all” documentaries and tell-alls are for later, when that effect diminished, and there’s a lot of distance accumulated.

it’s not a question of Disney trying to appear squeaky clean, it’s more that nobody wants their dirty laundry from work aired out like that.

The documentary on “The Last Jedi” was refreshingly honest for that sort of thing, and sort of surprising that Disney/Lucasfilm was okay with the “Mark Hamill hates what they’ve done with Luke” narrative. I think it has more to do with Rian Johnson, who seems to be more of an upfront filmmaker who’ll explain his creative process, influences, etc. JJ is a much more guarded filmmaker when it comes to the creative process and also seems more of a company man, even if he may have been frustrated by the experience of Episode 9. But of course it makes sense for Disney to try to sweep any creative difficulties under the rug.

Is the oracle scene the one where we see the vision of Rey and Kylo on the throne? Because that was referenced several times in the final film and surely seems like something we should have seen, right?

I’m still not really sure where that vision fits, but I don’t think the leaks mentioned the Oracle giving Kylo a vision. I could be wrong though.

I believe Kylo got a vision while at Vader’s castle, which inspired him to reconnect with Vader’s mask, where he then saw the vision of Rey (I think).

But that vision of Rey wasn’t in the final film, right? He just got a bunch of images from previous events and such.

I believe in one of the flashes you can see Dark Rey on the throne.

Heh, I watched it twice and still didn’t catch that, even when looking for it the second time. Probably should have been more prominent than blink and you miss it.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

Honestly it is sort of vague-looking. It is basically dark Rey but with white eyes like Palpatine’s. And I think she is sitting on the dark throne but I think it is a midshot. Plus, it is literally a quick flash, basically a few frames.

To me it looks like it was Frankensteined together in post rather than shot with that intention. Plus, it is only Rey, and not Rey and Kylo together, as they described the vision in the film.

I actually really wanted to see the Oracle, I was guessing it was mostly something of a cipher to extend the explanation or at least draw out the Palpatine reveal which they decided to cut for time. Here are some leaked concept images that show as much, doesn’t look like too many changes as much as trims.

There were deleted scenes on the episode 7 & 8 blu rays. Why wouldn’t there be deleted scenes for this one?

Because of #ReleaseTheJJCut. Deleted scenes would be viewed as evidence of the existence of such a cut, and the release of them would allow for fan extended editions to be made, aka bootleg JJ Cuts

No offense, kid, but I don’t think you know how to boil water.

If anything they won’t do it now because of the hashtag drama rather than any real conspiracy by the making of the film.

But the reality more likely will be that if there isn’t any deleted scenes, it is because many of them were related to plot points that were changed in reshoots, just like Rogue One. So maybe a part of it is because they don’t want to give people a major insight on how the story changed during production, it’s not because they’re hiding a “secret cut” of the film.
