Looks awesome. Are you using the AI Gigapixel video alpha? I upscaled a few deleted scenes with it myself but have since deleted them to recover hard drive space - I think your result is better than I managed; mine only really held up when viewed at a reasonable distance.

For now, I’ve just been using the standard AI Gigapixel as I do many of my tests based on lossless screenshots to save unnecessary rendering times, but I’ll be working on using the video edition as soon as I can get windows up and running again on my laptop.

Standard AI Gigapixel doesn’t produce bad artifacts in motion from what I’ve tested but the advantage the video version is that it takes multiple frames into account and is able to recover more true detail via the motion.

I still have to test for motion consistency in Sharpen AI on video as that is what I will be using for creating the appearance of native 4K from the official 4K upscales of the PT coming in a few months.

Do you have a way of running Sharpen AI on multiple frames? I’ve never found a way and resorted to regraining and sharpening the lame way in AE.

You can batch process it in photoshop using the plugin version, but Topaz did say they may be adding batch processing directly in the app at some point this year.

So likely I will plan out the rough plan for grading each film and then move on to sharpening all the shots. From there I will do the shot by shot color grade followed by film grain application.

I’m thinking when the 4K discs come out, I can create essential versions of this project that would try best to recreate the look of their theatrical prints, and I would likely list these as a separate project.

The grades would be blanket and be in SDR, but still 4K. No AI sharpening will be done to the footage, and neither will upscaled deleted scenes be included.

This will simply emulate the Kodak print stocks and accompanying grain.

This will not be replacements for the full blown editions, but will help at least have more pleasing versions to view and base fan edits off until I one day get this massive project complete.

Are people here interested?

I think the only film that would seriously benefit from this would be The Phantom Menace, I’d be 160% down for an “essential” regrain and regrade with skills of your caliber. I’d definitely be interested in the other films, and I’m certain they’d become my standard viewing copies, but The Phantom Menace should be on the top of the list imho.

Hi is there anywhere to download any of these yet please

I’m going to be trying out the new video AI upscaler from TOPAZ sometime soon and I’ll let you all know how the results turn out. It definitely seems more efficient of rendering time, but from what I’ve seen it seems like the neural network isn’t as experienced as the one for the main gigapixel, but of course I can’t be sure until I try it. Theoretically it could be better if it is able to extract extra detail by analyzing motion across multiple frames, but I’m not sure it really does much of that.

Forgive the compression artifacts given this is from the Disney+ version. This is with AI Sharpen, a HDR to SDR conversion, Kodak 5219 emulation, and some custom grading. This is what I would say would be a vivid modern film look grade option without film grain.

Trying to mess around with the Disney+ versions at least a little until the physical 4K discs come out.

Apart from the cyan hue of the sky it’s perfect!

Looks lovely!

Emanswfan are you planning on varying the emulated stocks based on their intended use conditions (daylight stocks vs artificial lighting stocks, etc.) or just one blanket stock across the whole film? Just curious.

In an eventual scene by scene or even shot by shot grade, stocks will be different depending on the case.

This is actually exactly why creating one grade for the whole movie for any of them hasn’t worked well, but I still want to do that as to get a version that maintains the relative color timing.

Nice! How about this quick and attempt at creating a film like color grading using yours as the base?:

I must say I largely prefer emanswfan’s grade.

Maybe I went for a bit too neutral. How about this:

Or how about just creating a different atmosphere by having the sun set:

Somewhere yet still further in between methinks?

(for the record this is a combination of both Dre and emanwfan’s mixes)

EDIT: added my own mix to the mix, not much changed apart from taking another cue from Dre and injecting some warm tones

Hmm, I think the skin tones like a tad bit undersaturated, but that’s not counting the variables of the lens flare from the lake and how low digital cinema cameras captured bit rate. Would they look more natural in a different shot, like the scene where Anakin says the infamous “Sand” quote, or about the same?

I’d punch in the contrast more for a more classic film look but it really looks in good shape and gives me hope for the amount of latitude there is to alter the look, the original sources are fairly neutral being such early digital.
