Maybe it feels a little asexual for guys, but I know plenty of girls who are getting a lot out of Rey and Kylo Ren! Haha.

Most of those fangirls who love “Reylo” apparently were not huge fans of the original trilogy prior to viewing The Force Awakens for the first time. Not being biased or anything, but it does say something about why many fans are turned off from a Kylo Ren and Rey romance in the sequel trilogy.

That is true. I love that there is a whole new group of female Star Wars fans. Also, a lot of the female fans, either on reddit, podcasts or Tumblr, also tend to have some really great analyses on the movies and characters.

I agree, but I believe that it is important to make certain things that you are a fan of appealing to some audiences to understand why you love it. When I first discovered “Reylo” about a month after I saw The Force Awakens, I didn’t think it would happen and dismissed it as typical fangirl shipping. It wasn’t until a year later (before The Last Jedi came out) that I saw Vincent Vendetta’s Reylo theory video (the video I posted earlier on this thread). I saw his Rey Kenobi theory, and I was surprised with the amount of detail and research put into it. He mentioned that he would be making a Reylo theory video, which got me interested based off how good I thought his Rey Kenobi video was. Once I saw his Reylo video, I was surprised, shocked, yet also won over and liked the possibility that this could be where the story could go. I left all expectations at the door when I saw The Last Jedi, and by the time when the two touched each others’ hands, I was shocked that Lucasfilm was indeed heading in this direction. I thought it was done so well that I eventually became a fan of this “Reylo” story. Unfortunately, I think fangirls, in some way, should understand that if you want to try to convince and win fans over to believing Reylo will happen, then I think creating fan art such as both characters wearing the slave Leia costume will not help. I just hope that this whole “Reylo” thing will be viewed with interest and potential to the Star Wars story, rather than an Internet shipping meme.

I don’t know exactly how they will portray Ben’s redemption, but I definitely see it happening, and I think Rey will play a part of it. I think it will be romantic love that puts the galaxy back together.

It’s a theory I’ve heard often (even literally my mom said this was her theory after she saw TLJ) and while I don’t have anything against it, personally I’d be surprised if it happens in an explicit “Rey and Ben are a romantic pair and will live happily ever after” way.

I doubt it will happen. Other than that scene where Rey and Kylo touch hands, the rest of the sequel trilogy seems weirdly asexual to me, at least in the traditional sense. Like it’s something that purposely being tiptoed around.

Rose kissing Finn was asexual?

Don’t know how I missed this, but to answer your question two months after the fact:

I suppose the act itself is not technically asexual by its nature, but it felt about as asexual as is possible for an onscreen kiss. There was nothing in the film that built up to that kiss or even hinted at any kind of romance between Rose and Finn. They spent almost the whole movie onscreen together and there was very little chemistry between them.

As for Kylo and Rey, I hope the play up the sexual tension more in episode IX, but I think having them end up together would not be a very satisfying result. The fact is that after The Last Jedi, the relationship between these two characters is probably the most interesting aspect of the story going forward.

I understand what you mean, but seeing Ben and Rey end up together could end up being very satisfying with how it’s played out on screen. That feeling was already emitted from The Last Jedi when the two began to fight Snoke’s guards.

I feel this is a very awkward relationship, and with all the lengths disney went to to protect Rey as a female character i find it ironic they end up having her fall for an abusive man, that has no redeemable qualities other than a plot device. Rey deserves better and so do we.

Despite those issues, a lot of women seem to like it. I mean, it’s in the same vein as Pride and Prejudice or Beauty and the Beast. I don’t think it is as simple as “bad man is bad”.

Yes, I tend to think that “Rey shouldn’t love abusive man” is a sort of one dimensional way of viewing their relationship.

Not as comical as what followed after the kiss. Quick to death. Ok byeeeeee

I honestly bought everything with the relationship the whole trilogy, even his redemption. But that’s just how I felt.

Well, it is now.

I found the kiss at the end to be a satisfying end for them. Had Ben been friend-zoned, it would have felt very off-putting. So I’d say their relationship worked well, even if they lazily killed Ben afterward (seems to have been a last-minute change).

What other way is it? She fell for him because he has a nice body (TLJ scene) and because JJ Abrahams wanyed to redeem another villain so badly. Kylo is a man child, he is a murderer and the only interaction he has with Rey is during fights… Its so messed up.

I think it’s quite obvious that they came together based on their lives and growing up lonely wanting a family.

It’s not like they both sailed off into the twin sunset. Kylo got a satisfying kiss, sure, in return for saving Rey and in that moment of returning from death no less, excites overwhelming emotions.

By the end, neither enter a relationship and Rey retains her independent lifestyle. Not much harm. Only Luke and Leia are seen at the end to be cherished as family and no where is Kylo around to hint at some cosmic Force ghost, star crossed lovers nonsense.

Ben had a family, one that he not only left, but actually killed off. Another thing, its hard to believe that Rey would fall for the guy who killed the closest father figure she had in this whole trilogy - Hans. This is just Twilight levels of masoquism.
