Hehe, was that grammatical error an intentional pun?

I don't actually totally agree with that statement. Sure, two hours of DVD quality footage shouldn't be squeezed onto one layer, but because Laserdisc footage is so much softer and due to the nature of MPEG2 compression it actually compresses a lot more without any quality loss. So in most cases it would be impossible to tell any difference between a single layer Laserdisc transfer and a dual layer, unless a hefty amount of filter was done to sharpen the footage (though then the sharpening may be more detrimental than the compression artefacting!). From what I've read, this is the main reason there aren't too many dual layer transfers available here, not because the burners are rarer or even the hefty price of media. Most users here would be willing to spend a bit to get the best quality possible.

Of course things change once you start adding multiple audio tracks, extras and motion menus!
