I think it’s really dishonest to reduce anyone who doesn’t like The Last Jedi to a bunch of politically motivated epithets like “racist,” “sexist,” “homophobic,” etc.

You said “a few,” but you also said, “oft-mentioned,” and I have zero trust in you or others like you to make the distinction.

Don’t take this as me speaking for oojason, this is my opinion not at all his, but the way I’ve always seen it, if someone is talking about racists, sexists, homophobes, etc, and you say “Oh hey they’re talking about me!”… you said it not me.

To play Devil’s advocate, maybe her style would’ve been less “off” to some if they had kept her “hippy-dippy” personality from the first cut of the film. I could possibly see an argument in toning down her style since they also toned down her personality.

Also, if she had been introduced as a surviving senator, more people may have felt her style better matched that profession.

I wonder if either idea could be implemented in a Blackened Mantle type fanedit with a foreign dub and subtitles. Both ideas are pretty cool.

They’re space fantasy movies but they have a very particular aesthetic, especially in regards to the Rebellion/Resistance and Empire/First Order. Military figures wear military uniforms or at the very least, military style clothing. When a Vice Admiral has candy color hair and wears a cocktail dress, it sticks out, and there’s no real reason for it to stick out.

Also, ignoring everything else they’ve said in this thread, I actually agree a little with Vladius here. It doesn’t bother me, but it is a different aesthetic.
