Normal people that make up the general audience aren’t going to come on places like this sorry everyone XD

The Mandalorian & Jedi: Fallen Order show us there are no “haters”, only Star Wars Fans

Nope, wrong, uh-uh. There are only two camps — haters and True Fans™; there is no overlap, no third or fourth camps. True Fans™ love everything with the Star Wars brand name; True Fans™ love only George Lucas’ six-episode Saga, TCW, and Legends; True Fans™ love only George Lucas’ six-episode Saga and Legends; True Fans™ love only George Lucas’ six-episode Saga; True Fans™ love only the Original Trilogy and everything produced by Disney; True Fans™ love only the Original Original Trilogy; True Fans™ love only ANH & TESB; True Fans™ love only SW '77. Everyone who doesn’t love what True Fans™ love aren’t True Fans™; they’re just haters, and should be regarded with as much disdain and condescension as one can mustre.

Very well put! I wish more of the fandom was as wise as this, and understood their own hypocrisy when saying things like “true fans don’t like (insert anything outside of SW77 and ESB here).”

I don’t consider myself a hater. I’m not at all happy that I feel this cynical about something I’ve loved for the majority of my life. I just can’t switch my feelings off and say “well, it’s more Star Wars”. I mean, come on, I’m more excited about Frozen 2 than I am the final installment in the Skywalker saga.
The numbers I put up are based on how I’ve seen people talking about TROS and by that, I mean pretty much no one. The only person I know who has said anything about seeing this is my dad and I doubt he’ll actually end up seeing it. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if I’m wrong about this but it’s just my perspective.
I’ve had at least 8-10 people tell me they are going to see it, but you’ve heard the same from pretty much no one. So which of us is right? I don’t know how the movie will do, but I think anecdotes can only take us so far when it comes to predicting blockbuster performance.
Many planning on skipping it would likely change their minds if word-of-mouth is overwhelmingly positive.

I have at least 8-10 people going with me to the 6pm Thursday screening. Which is more than I went with for TFA or TLJ. But I know this has nothing to do with the film’s box office.

Definitely, but we won’t really see that until after the movie comes out.

Obviously the phrase “true fans” is obnoxious and you’ll get no argument from me there. But “haters” is a useful term.

True haters.
What other relevant numbers can be tracked here? I see people checking youtube views and making comparisons, with the internet more of those analytics are public. So I don’t think it’s really just here, yes it’s some anecdotal but part of what I’m getting out of the speculation is each our own temperature read of the room. This will make a good record later when we can all look back and see how we put our foot in our mouths. But this isn’t the only website I go on, I’m like anybody else basically reading the digital morning newspaper most days, and now in December I’m personally not seeing very much hype, beyond my inner personal circle. Not dead in the water by a long shot but I don’t know when the hype machine is supposed to really take off with just over 2 weeks away.

I’m gonna skip it no matter what. TFA sucked, in my opinion, to the point i have not and will not see TLJ. Even if the last one turns out to be amazing, it would just be the cherry on top of a pile of crap. I cannot bring myself to consume or accept the entire thing or even parts of it. The ST is non-existent from my view of the SW Galaxy and prefer it to remain that way.
And I would not bet on word-of-mouth being overwhelmingly positive.
And somehow it will make lots and lots of money. I think I am just about alone on this notion that you vote with your dollars instead of paying money for the privilege to hate-watch something to, in turn, argue intelligently on a forum about why it sucked.

Same. Except for haven’t having watched TLJ; I did end up watching the first 40 minutes.

Maybe lots of people saw and enjoyed them both?
Do either of you have a box office prediction? (most recent list of predictions listed on previous page)
Yes it’s some anecdotal
You could pretty much just stop there I think.
It’s a predictions and expectations thread, none of us are being dishonest about when we’re speaking from anecdotes, if we aren’t giving our perspectives what’s the point of the thread?

Well I guess in fairness I’ve been saying this thread is pointless pretty much since its start. That said, I don’t think anecdotal evidence is a wise way to predict. My prediction would be very different if I was going off anecdotal evidence.
I predict it will make lots of monies.

He is just talking with no offensive comments. This is not serious topic: we just guess numbers for TROS, yes? This is some fun and is just talk about where we think, and has some of our personal events of going to see the film will be?
If you think thread is “pointless pretty much from the start” why tell other people who want to talk to be quiet? He does not crticize again, again and again like some use this thread to do on here.
We want to hear more, not less.
Thankyou.

Yes, it’s all just for fun, but people are naturally going to critique other predictions and how people arrived at their conclusions. Not all sources and methods are equal in my opinion. Of course none of us really knows, we haven’t even seen the movie yet and don’t know how good it is (or isn’t). I just think it’s fun to guess.
To be clear the point of my initial post was in fact to say although this thread will contain some personal anecdotes they do not alone form the basis of my prediction. I have been looking at the same numbers, reading comments all around wherever I can and paying attention, the internet is a fair model for a window into the general public, I’m not just relying on my dentist telling me he’s lost interest in the series.
