Star Wars Prequel Trilogy CGI Free

I’ve just recently got this idea. It’s the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy in the style of the Original Theatrical Versions of the Original Trilogy. It’s basically a what-if scenario with the Prequels, where the CGI effects would be either removed or replaced with stop-motion effects and/or puppets. I’m not sure if this is even possible, but I think it’s one hell of a concept.

So… you make them somewhat better to look at?
The look of the OT is only a fraction of what makes its “style.” Not everything has horrid CGI effects, and even then, doesn’t fix underlying issues of the PT. Just be a time waster for what you’re looking for. Better off just making your own fan PT trilogy if you put that much effort into it.

I’m disappointed this hasn’t happened yet. Fan films have been getting progressively cinematic in recent years, and no one’s thought to take a crack at an alternate PT?

I like the idea in theory. I used to ponder the notion of a PT being made in a 50s/60s style, so that it feels as if it had been made 20 years earlier than the OT and makes for a logical viewing experience. Commercial suicide of course…

There’s no way anyone would do lightsabers or blaster fire manually anymore.

You’d just have to remake the whole thing, get 30 people and have them do a few scenes each in the style of Our RoboCop Remake.

Can I get a link to your RoboCop remake, please Mocata? It sounds fun 😃

There are many awesome animators around, it would be cool to see some of their interpretations of a Prequel Trilogy more in keeping with the Original Trilogy style (with maybe a few fixes / tweaks along the way?)

Sort of a ‘Daz Tibbles meets Galaxy of Adventures’ style?

Or the guy who did that aewsome ‘TIE Fighter’ animation youtube vid - OtaKing770?

Tighten Up and then turn it all the way up to 11!

Friends, it’s already been done! 😉

They were talking about a version with matte paintings, blurry lasers and lightsabers, grain all over the place, and ships that are obviously real models (you know what I mean).

The unfortunate reality of the Star Wars prequel and Disney trilogies is that they will always be around. Forever. They will never go away. It can never be undone.

I also prefer to be referred to as “TNT”, not “Freezing”.

“ships that are obviously real models”, uh most ships WERE real models 😉

It would be honestly be my dream to see someone do a full-fledged Star Wars project which fully commits to the production techniques from '77 (shooting on real film, analog compositing, drawing effects onto the negative, etc). It would be incredibly ambitious, but not impossible!

Incredibly ambitious, and incredibly expensive! To do analog compositing, you’ll need an optical printer, are there any left still useable? It’s so much easier to do it on a computer! And I’m sure that if you want you can have the computer reproduce all the flaws of analog compositing (matte lines, etc.)

Han: Hey Lando! You kept your promise, right? Not a scratch?
Lando: Well, what’s left of her isn’t scratched. All the scratched parts got knocked off along the way.
Han (exasperated): Knocked off?!

Doing it by hand is still the best way, not the fastest mind you 😛

Umm, I’m pretty sure those were done on a PC…

MAC actually, but still manually.

Then it’s CGI.

Yes? And?
What, you think because it’s “CGI”, a person just pushes a button and it’s done? LOL
I WISH!

It’s basically the same as doing it with opticals. Just different tools. So yes, people still do it “manually”.

LOL. Manually means by hand (manus), CGI means it’s done on a computer (C=computer).

I don’t think anyone here has said CGI just magically appears to movies. Not sure why your posts are in this thread.
