I will put an ISO of this disc on myspleen if somebody can point me to some decent resources on how to do it. I have a myspleen account, I’ve just never created a torrent before. I tried to upload this Navajo disc as a torrent before, but could not seem to get it to work.

Ok everybody I think I figured out how torrents on myspleen work. You should be able to download the ISO of this by searching Navajo Star Wars on myspleen.

Downloaded. Thanks a lot! 😃

Is it possible to upload the scan of the DVD label and cover too?

The artwork is the same of the official standard release?

If you like that totally unfamiliar language angle, try the Thai dub. It’s also about as far from English as you can go, and it uses even fewer recognizable words. And it’s a complete trilogy dub, and they dub Jabba in Thai, which is as awesomely wrong as it sounds. The downside is the sync varies between excellent and poor, sometimes in the same shot. Not 80’s Hong Kong bad, but not good. Actually the real downside is they get Leia very, very wrong IMO.

I’ll have to check out the Thai dub.

Now I kind of want to have a multilingual dub, where each character is played by their best dubbed actor. It’ll really capture the diversity of the Galaxy. 😉

I don’t own a scanner, but I could bring it onto campus and try to find an adequate scanner. What’s the best way to scan the disc? A normal paper scanner?

I’ve found your typical flatbed works great. Your cheaper feed-through type scanners may not like it very much 😉

cfillak if you don’t have a scanner at home don’t worry, for me it’s ok. Maybe you can upload a picture with your cellphone in good quality. I just want it to print it on a ink printable DVD+R DL, but if the artwork is the same of the standard R1 release then there is no need to have it, I can use the other one 😃

Hello, n00b here. Is there still a way to get a copy of this movie? Honestly I been searching around, Arizona and the Navajo reservation for a spare copy. Unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be any available for purchase or at least borrow due to the limited copies. I would greatly appreciate some assistance. Thanks.

Looks like all the usual suspects are out of stock, possibly for good (it was a limited edition deal, after all). That’s a shame – even for those who prefer the unaltered films via some fan preservation and my synced Navajo track, I’d always recommend they buy the real deal. Not just because those are the fan edit rules, but because the Navajo voice artists really deserve whatever share of the proceeds they would have gotten, and then some. They did great work.

I believe the latest Despecialized Edition has the Navajo audio (modified to sync and remove SE elements), and Navajo “titles” subtitles in SRT format for the onscreen text. Project Threepio has those subtitles in other formats. This may be all that’s widely available anymore.

The tribe sponsored a screening of this version here in Albuquerque at the KiMo. Sadly I missed this screening.

Hello All!

I was able to make a Diné audio version from Harmy’s Despecialized but would really love to get my hands on the actually DVD. Been scouring the interwebs with no luck. Can anyone help out a lacking fan?

Thanks!

Rikter does that include subtitles or just the audio?

DeEd has the necessary Navajo subs to accompany the dub, and you can download the subs separately in Project Threepio (Navajo’s not listed as a supported language because we don’t have complete-movie Navajo subs for the whole trilogy, but we do have the portion that accompanies the dub)

Yep, this is what I used but it is no substitute for the actual discs.

To clarify, the subtitles do include crawl subs and Greedo subs, but the DVDs include a rendered Navajo crawl which is pretty neat – the subtitles are pretty utilitarian.

UPDATE

  1. I need to verify that further discussion of the preservation of this OOP DVD will be allowed.

  2. I also cannot find a scan or a photo of the back or spine so, I’m also working on creating a “Preservation Edition” cover that I hope will somewhat replicate the original DVD cover.

  3. I’m also planning on editing in the Diné title crawl into Harmy’s Despecialized version creating a hybrid edit, but I’ve not edited a movie in almost twenty years so I’ll need to learn how to upscale and see if my old ass software is even capable of this task. If not I’ll be after some freeware.

For the custom crawl, you may want to talk to the Krieg der Sterne Team (or at least Laserschwert). They may have some scripts or templates you can use to re-create the crawl without having to re-invent the wheel. That way you could also create a 1977-style Navajo crawl instead of an SE-style Navajo crawl, which would be more appropriate for a Despecialized version anyway, although not the same as the DVD version.

The quality isn’t the best, but you can see the back of the Navajo DVD cover in this youtube video.

Maybe you can ask them to take a photo?

Great Idea!

[edited] I just watched the video and was able to take in the cover but after really kicking it around I decided to only somewhat recreate the cover as this has moved into an actual OOP preservation now. So a custom cover with an insert explaining this edition more fully would be more appropriate.[end editing]

In the mean time I working on recreating it and just finished the cover a few hours ago, spine and back are next once I know what they look like!
