Oh, it's been very convincingly disputed, people just choose not to believe it. Kevin Smith never edited a Star Wars movie. He LIKED Phantom Menace. He was also busy writing about 3 different movies, plus some comics, and prepping his own flicks at the time. Besides which, Mags here has already admitted he basically taught himself what he was doing on his edits, and improved from there. He's not someone who's already made 3 films by the time TPM came out.
MagnoliaFan is not Kevin Smith. He's just a guy who enjoys his geek references, and knew what he'd be getting into by making an edit available on the internet, and knew what the response would be, so he headed everyone off at the pass and named himself after an anonymous internet asshole from a movie about anonymous internet assholes
I always thought that was, honestly, the best part about his edits. The Kevin Smith fixation has always been a little weird to me. Just because he drops some jokes in a movie doesn't mean he's going to set aside time in his schedule to re-edit a movie he thought was fine as it was.
