Help Wanted: NEED ISOLATED BITS AND PIECES of dialogue and sound effects sequences from A NEW HOPE

Need to boost dialogue and sound effects, while keeping JW’s score reduced or in far background. Also, are there any isolated dialogues of the characters or certain sequences? For example, Luke’s dialogue isolated or the detention bay shootout sequence with voice and sound fx only? I saw the rough cut of the black and white restoration and that had Luke shouting “Noooo!” after Obi Wan’s battle with Vader. I am looking for audio bits and pieces, even from something like that.

Is there a best version of the original audio track 77 on a A New Hope that could be able to to get a decent center pan to try to reduce score volume to get to clean dialogue and sound effects?

Thanks

ACTUALLY, this brings up something I’ve had in a back of my mind for a while:
There is no one resource for this subject. Anyone that intends to make a radical fan edit has to do this sort of thing from scratch…searching youtube and other lesser known websites to find a small snippet of dialogue or sound effect (or filmed element) to maybe possibly insert into their edit.

It would be really helpful (aka cool) if someone (not me) started to put together a version of each OT (and even PT) film and wherever possible and applicable, insert dialogue and/or sound effects only tracks.
Of course these could be added to once more resources were either found OR if someone began to tackle recreating elements.
ALSO something else that could be apart of these editions is the inclusion of certain shots that have been rotoscoped (or somehow altered) by our lovely fan editors as possible resources.

Just throwing that idea out there for anyone who might want to tackle it. It’s not like it would be a big project! 😛

Or if the “lesser known websites” were listed or had links. But in the meantime, is there audio anywhere? EP IV A New Hope for right now would be fine with me. Thanks

I’m sure there’s a way to do this digitally, but…

One way to do it --in real time-- using hardware is to get a modern Surround Receiver or preamp with analogue outputs for each channel (The NAD T748II has these, for example). Make sure the receiver is playing back the DTS-Master Audio, play the blu ray and record the output of the center channel to whatever recording system you have. Though I haven’t done this specifically with Star Wars, I’ll still bet you’ll end up with a very high-quality recording with almost 100% dialogue, with a few center-panned sound effects popping in as well. Most modern movies have the music panned to some combination of the L, R, and surround channels.

Or just take the 5.1 audio file and split it into mono WAV files (one for each channel) using software, of which there are many options. I use eac3to myself (yes, it works with DTS-HD MA).

The problem is, it’s still mixed - the center channel usually has some sound effects and music in it, the front left and front right often has some dialogue in it, and the front left, front right, surround left, and surround right are still a blend of music and sound effects.

Isolating just the sound effects or just the dialogue is next to impossible, but using the individual channels from the surround mix is helpful and standard practice for most fan editors.

There is some isolated audio from some game titles.

I think Death Star trench run and rogue leader series has some stuff.

But it’s not a huge amount

The center channel from a 5.1 mix usually has music mixed in (specially if it was just upscaled from a Dolby Surround track…) so it’s not the best option.

Your best bet is to try something like Adobe Audition’s Center Channel extractor on a lossless Dolby Surround track.
That has some chance of really separating dialog from stereo music.

As for bits of dialogues from the movies you can find here stuff from the late Star Wars Soundboards website section. I guess there won’t be everything but hey, it’s a start 😄

Hey, thanks for those. Working on Ep IV only at the moment if there’s anything out there.

Did anyone download all the audio that was available from the “Star Wars Mash-ups” page that use to be on the official Star Wars site? that had quite a few scenes that contained dialogue/ fx only tracks. It was a video editor that allowed you to create your own scenes from the films and made available dialogue/fx, music and video clips.

This was the original description and url

“Create your own Star Wars movie with hundreds of video clips, audio tracks and photos from Star Wars. Recut, rearrange and remix. Also add your own video or stills.”

sadly the link now takes you to the starwars.com main page

I was trying to think of what else could be done. The only thing I came up with was to contact people who’ve had star wars websites over the years and see if they might have them or know of someone who might.

I actually checked with the staff at theforce.net and they didn’t know of anyone. I sent a message to t-bone but haven’t heard back yet.

Who else could we contact?

Okay, that’s pretty awesome right there. Good luck, and may the force be with you - always. “T-bone, now that’s a name I haven’t heard of in a long time…”
