An Info & Help Thread for the 'Fan Edits and Projects for Other Properties' section... (Searches, FAQs, 'Where can I find x?', 'Is there an Edit of film x?', Myspleen, and more...)

 (Edited)

A general Info & Help Thread for any ideas, suggestions, FAQs and also Q&A’s - that any of the fine members of OriginalTrilogy•com may have for, or about, non-Star Wars Fan Edits.

And also a thread for just for helping each other out too…

Looking to acquire projects on here? Then please read this…

(and take the time to look around to see how this place works - and doesn’t - before posting requests for projects on here - thank you)

I have found a Fan Edit / Preservation Project I am interested in - but don’t know how to get / acquire / download it?

The OriginalTrilogy•com is a community where a ‘read first - post after’ mantra benefits everyone here - especially for the ‘Fan Project’ sections. We appreciate some may be excited to see the projects that feature on here - information on how to acquire them is readily available - yet patience is also required. If you bring impatience, entitlement, aggressive or vitriolic attitudes, personal attacks, or toxicity… then expect some choice words in return - and also expect your stay on here to be a short one.

Do NOT create a new thread asking ‘for a link to’… to Harmy’s Despecialized Editions, TN1’s 4K77/80/83, adywan’s Revisited Edits, the Hal9000 Edits, or any other project listed on this site. It is for you to take 5 minutes and go find the relevant project on here, for you to then read up on what the project is about, and then how to acquire it. Do not ask / expect others to do this simple task for you - we’ve had hundreds of such entitled requests over the years - and the patience of community members here understandably wears thin. If thousands of people have managed to find, read up on, and then acquire these projects listed on here over the years… then you can too. A little patience - and a ‘read first - post after’ mantra - goes a long way on here…

These ‘signpost’ threads, featuring useful info and links to the five most sought-after fan projects, may be of interest…

Some info & help for Harmy’s Despecialized Editions of the Original Trilogy…

Some info & help for Puggo’s Grande 16mm preservations of the Original Trilogy…

Some info & help for TN1’s 4K77, 4K80 & 4K83 preservation projects of the Original Trilogy…

Some info & help for adywan’s Revisited Editions of the Original Trilogy…

Some info & help for the Hal 9000 Edits of the Prequel & Sequel Trilogies (+ more)

Obviously there are countless more projects in the four main Project Index threads in each of the ‘Fan Project’ sections of the site.

OriginalTrilogy•com’s Fan Edit / Preservation Forum Rules and FAQ

A general, yet important, rule on many a Fan Edit site is… ‘Before obtaining any fan edits, you must be in ownership of the official retail release’.

Another important rule is do not post direct download links to Fan Edits or Preservations etc on this site (though links to a short demo or trailer is fine) - see below for more info & details.

A few often-asked questions…

I have found a Fan Edit / Preservation I am interested in - but don’t know how to get / acquire / download it?

Firstly, take the time to look around to see how this place works - and doesn’t - before posting requests for projects on here - thank you.

Read through the thread of the project you are interest in - there is usually information in there (often in the very first post) on how to acquire a project.

If no such information is in the thread… then send a polite PM to the author / owner of the project (which is usually the creator of the thread on here too) - and after that a little bit of patience is required. It is likely that the Fan Edit author / owner isn’t online every day - or even every week - and may have a ton of queries or other stuff to get through before dealing with your request.

If you haven’t heard back after some time, then let it be known that you are seeking a copy by making a post in the relevant thread; hopefully other members on here may be in a position to help you.

Also, fellow members may be more likely to help you out if you are an active member of the community here - you don’t have to be a fellow fan editor, preservationist, tech wiz, artistic or skilled etc; just a member that has made, or is making, an effort.

It may also be worth checking some of the other Fan Edit sites around - sometimes it can just come down to good fortune if you acquire a project or not. Being rude, impatient, making repeated requests, or ranting about how unfair it all is - or what a rubbish system this is - won’t likely get you any help that may have otherwise been coming your way…

Myspleen aren’t currently giving out invites / Can I have a Myspleen invite / Myspleen requests etc…

Myspleen (a private torrent site) are not currently issuing invites to their site - and haven’t done so for some time.

No-one here is affiliated with Myspleen, we have nothing to do with Myspleen, we are as much in the dark about this as you - and so we cannot help you with invites or other info.

So please ** DO NOT MAKE A POST ASKING FOR A MYSPLEEN INVITE ** - thank you (we’ve already had hundreds of posts about this - and members’ patience on here is understandably wearing thin).

Any invite requests posted in threads on here will be deleted.

Myspleen does have its own forum, here - www.myspleen.org/forums

The above link to the Myspleen forum is also useful for finding out if / why the the site itself may be down or not - or for resetting forgotten passwords and other account queries etc. Again, do not ask for help re forgotten passwords or account info on here - we have nothing to do with the running of Myspleen - and so cannot help you.

It may be worth be trying some of the public torrent sites - and also private torrent sites too - for trying to find an elusive Fan Edit etc. Online search engines are useful for this.

Some projects also have their own websites or youtube, twitter and facebook pages etc - so it’s worth checking for those as well.

What links can I put up to downloads of Fan Edits or Preservations on this site?

We are NOT pirates - and this is not a torrent or download site.

Rule 4. of the ‘Fan Edit / Preservation forum Rules and FAQ’ says ‘No direct links to file downloads of copyrighted media (VOBs, WMV, QuickTime, torrent files, NZB files, ED2K links, etc) or links to complete fan edits on sites such as YouTube or Vimeo. No direct links to pages containing such files. Short clips to demonstrate quality or content are permissible.’

A summary of the OT•com ‘Linking Policy’:-

“PM me for the download links to my project” - is acceptable.

“Now available on a.b.starwars” - is acceptable.
“Click HERE for NZB” - is not.

“Torrent uploaded to piratebay” - is acceptable.
“Get the torrent at www.atorrentsite.com” - is not.

“Mega links are available at fanedit•info” - is acceptable.
“Mega links can be found on this page” - is not.

“look for the Star Wars Fixhund file with pcm audio in 1080p on tpb” - is acceptable.
“Star.Wars.IV.1977.MULTI.VFF.1080p.PCM.AC3.x264-Fixhund on tpb” - is not.

Furthermore, obfuscated or hidden links (ie, links behind an icon or a single character in the post text etc) are still considered direct links, will be removed - and will result in a ban.

Is there an Index of ‘Fan Edits of Other Films’?

Yes, as linked to above - and also here… ‘An Index Thread for Fan Edits of Other Films… (and more)’.

It may be worth scrolling through the pages in this section of the site to find a Fan Edit, project or discussion topic for information too. Checking the other Fan Edit sites linked here, as well as your public / private torrent sites of choice will likely help you find what you are seeking.

You can also search for any of the threads on the OriginalTrilogy•com by going to your online search engine of choice (ie, google, startpage, bing, duckduckgo, yahoo etc) and typing in:-

site:originaltrilogy.com and then whatever you are looking for.

Eg - if searching for ADigitalMan’s non-Star Wars Edits, type site:originaltrilogy.com adigitalman non-star wars

Please do NOT start a new thread asking for info or links to acquire a project / fan edit that already has it’s own thread - thank you.

(We’d soon sink under request threads if everybody did this - so please post in the relevant project / edit thread - cheers).

If you’d like your project added to this Index please post a link to it below - along with which category it belongs in & its current status.

Is there a ‘Fan Edit Reviews’ thread?

Yes. Vultural has a quality FanEdit Reviews - Post Your Reviews Here thread for members who wish to leave some feedback and information on any of the Fan Edits they may have viewed. Please read Vultural’s opening post of his thread before making a post in there - thank you.

Hopefully it will be of some help and use for any intrigued members for certain Edits as well as for the Editors themselves. And also be a benefit for newer members who may be seeking some guidance or information on Edits.

Some Edits may also have reviews in their own respective Edit threads - so it is worth checking in there too.

General Info…

Patience… look around - and you will find the information you seek…

Joining up and then creating a new thread along the lines ‘Give me the link to X’, ‘Where is project Y’, or going straight into a project thread and posting ‘How do I get these?’ don’t really fly on here - and will likely be ignored or deleted. Taking the time to learn about a project - read through the project thread(s) - as well as how to acquire them; simply making an effort to be part of the community here, and how this place works, can go a long way…

Availability of fan projects…

Fan Editors are responsible for the availability / distribution of their Edits - it may well be frustrating that you have found information on a long sought-after Edit on here (or elsewhere) - and yet have no way of acquiring it, though unfortunately on occasion that is the way it is…

Also, check some of the Fan Edit sites linked to above - they have good, friendly and knowledgeable communities as well. Remember… be patient, be polite - it may just come down to good fortune if you acquire it or not. Ranting about how unfair it all is - or ‘what a rubbish system it is’ - won’t likely get you any help that may have been coming your way.

Please remember to leave some feedback - or even a review…

A great deal of time, love and effort going into making many of the projects that appear here - so if and when you do watch an Edit or project please remember to leave some feedback for the Editor / Preservationist etc - whether on a technical level, ideas for additional changes / edits or alternatives, some constructive criticism (keep it civil), how much you enjoyed it, or even just a simple thank you…

Reviews are also much appreciated and valued by the project creators - helping them improve for any future versions, or for any other prospective projects.

Also see the above Is there a Fan Edit Review thread? section too.

Some general advice for fan editors / preservationists / members undertaking fan projects…

Remember to back up your continuing (and finished) work - often and to multiple sources; whether that’s to physical drives or cloud based storage systems. Many promising projects on here (and elsewhere) have stalled or been cancelled due to work being lost from hard drive failure - with sadly no backs up of that work made anywhere; all those long hours, getting content ‘just right’, efforts and skills invested, seeing ideas come to fruition - all lost.

Should you ‘get stuck’ on a certain part of the project it may be worth asking around for some assistance, help or input from the community here - or maybe watch a few other projects to see if anyone has achieved or overcome similar obstacles or issues.

If you’d like your project to attract others’ attention it can be beneficial to give some basic info… a well laid out thread detailing what your project is may help - along with a good title, the projects goals / aim / what inspired you to undertake the project can go a long way in attracting more views. Noting it’s style/vibe, how long it is, what sources it uses, a cut-list of changes (for fan edits) or just a change-list (or an overview of changes), and also to credit those people who may have helped on your project - or inspired you. A catchy title, logo and artwork, comparison pics or demo pics, a demo video, and bite-sized chunks of info about your endeavour may all help your project stand out…

If you’re doing some colour-correction, clean-up work or similar, then sites like screenshotcomparison.com, diff.pics and framecompare.com are great free resources for showcasing and directly comparing images/screenshots of the work you’re undertaking and results achieved - or working towards.

Sites like postimages.org and imgur.com are also great free and easy resources for storing images - and also linking to them so they appear on other sites too - like this one 😃

vimeo.com and streamable.com are greats platform for showcasing video snippets and examples or demos etc (free, quick and easy to create an account on either) - often without the incessant and somewhat arbitrary ‘copyright claims’ that many videos on youtube seems to suffer from.

Please give consideration to how you’re going to make your finished project available to members here. Will you upload it to myspleen, Mega, a googledrive or dropbox type service, or as a torrent etc? If a documentary type project - youtube, vimeo or similar online video site…?

Also, which format(s) will you make your project available in - mp4, iso, blu ray or dvd format etc? Flac or mp3 if an audio venture?

Will your Edit be available in an array of different sizes? ie, some editors like to put out 2gb, 4gb, 10gb and 35gb versions (or around those sizes) - so people who prefer USB flash drives, or on dvd, maybe blu ray, or just a HD version on their pc or media centre can watch them.

Should you wish for your project to be added to any of the Index Threads on the site, post a link to your thread in the relevant Index Thread - and it will be included in the main Indexes as soon as possible.

^ any additional suggestions, advice or input are most welcome.

Bluto’s comprehensive and quality Guide to Downloading Projects from Usenet thread, in the How-To’s and Technical Discussions section of the site, may be of interest for those members looking to acquire any available Projects this way.

a thread for short Fan Films found online at youtube / vimeo etc - a 2021 thread for non-SW fan films.

If anyone has any suggestions for info / links to be added to this thread please post them in here - thank you.

A polite request: that fan editors & preservationists keep their project threads (and thread titles) updated as to their status - whether their project is in the… ‘Planning’ or ‘Idea’ stages, if any ‘Help Needed’ is required, is a ‘Work In Progress (WIP)’, or hopefully ‘Finished & Released’, or even unfortunately ‘Unfinished’, ‘Canceled’ or ‘On Hiatus’ etc.

The site staff also ask that fan editors & preservationists include information in the opening post of their project thread as to how they would like members to ask about obtaining their projects; whether that is by sending them a PM, or asking for link requests in the project thread itself, or by other means. Thank you.

Some information about The 2020 re-organisation of the ‘Fan Project’ sections of the site - and more…

If creating a new thread that is NOT a fan project… please give fellow members a clear idea of what the thread is about. For example, add ‘Query’, or ‘Info’, ‘Discussion’, ‘Help: looking for…’, ‘Help Wanted’, ‘Info Wanted’, ‘Has anyone done a project on X?’, or ‘Idea: for Project X’ etc to the thread title. It annoys members to see lazily titled threads that appear to be projects on here - to open them - and only to find it is some lazy git just looking for a project, or wanting a link, or more info, or wanting someone else to make a project for them etc. Please do not make new threads for which there are project threads already in existence.

Please let us also know if you see any errors, broken links or if project threads / Indexes require updating. 👍

You may have better luck with a request for text removal / a textless version in the ‘DVD Covers, Disc Labels, and Other Fan Artwork’ section - this section is really for non-Star Wars stuff like Fan Edits 😉

There are some very talented people in there who may be able to help - or who may even have a textless version of that picture already 😃

I think Tyler0013 was working on that poster - or one very much like it…

Edit: a simple google image search turned up this…

For the largest quality size I could find of that image, try this link below:-

Is there a DIE HARD 3 fanedit that only uses the alternate ending instead of the very bad theatrical version ?

Author
Time

I mean, both endings aren’t very good, honestly. It’s the weakest part of the movie by far.

Author
Time
 (Edited)

I really like the alternate one. At least it’s consistent with the movie as a reverse tone to the first Die Hard. The theatrical version is just a dumb action piece that just doesn’t make much sense.

Rewatching the Predator series (Predator: masterpiece; Predator 2: excellent; The Predator: very cool; Predators: lame… this is what happens when Joel Silver is not involved, guys !), since I don’t like the cross over episodes (AVP & AVP: Requiem) is there a fanedit (easily available) that blends them together as one fun ride ?

Found this: https://ifdb.fanedit.org/predator-chronicles-volume-1/

Is it worth watching ?

edit: ok found it somewhere. Only dvd quality, but I’ll give it a try !

Guys, does anyone know if there is a fanedit of Star Trek Enterprise last episode ? I’m rewatching the show but I don’t really want to finish with the terrible official last episode, so if there is on that cuts out all of the TNG material to leave the focus on Archer, I would welcome it.

Thanks in advance ! 😃

Thanks ! Totally forgot to check FE, I just checked on the spleen where the edit is nowhere to be seen. Seems the project is SD locked, I wonder if the faneditor made an update with DH sources. I’ll try to find it anyway, it seems to be exactly what I was looking for.

Thanks again 😉

edit: hum… can’t find it anywhere 😕 could someone point me in the right direction ? Thanks in advance 😃

Hello, everyone. I know this website is mainly about Star Wars and even though this thread is about non-Star Wars edits, I don’t see any one talk about horror movies. Specifically, Nightmare on Elm Street. Is it possible that anyone has the edit by Dr. Sapirstein called, “Nightmare on Elm Street Anthology Volume 1”?
