I purchased it. The changes blow chunks but the core films are still the best ever.

might as well chalk one up for jimbo under "Bought it, best DVD set ever made!"
as if anyone is surprised

I think you're going to cop a bit of flack about that sentence Luke, from overly sensitive people who don't share our dark sense of humor.

I know of only one person I wasn't able to convince NOT to buy the set and he's going through the stages of grief at the moment.

Right now he's on the cusp of Denial and Anger. He'll soon move through Bargaining, Depression and Acceptance then finally onto Refunding.

He's an SE lover and he said he was prepared to accept a lot but that Kiwi Boba Fett and little Wooden-Head's ghost tore it for him.

He didn't mind the "weesa free".

Chalk up another ex-fan to Lucas's insane machinations.
"The people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country." - Goering.

"If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it." - Goebbels.

"In times of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act." - Orwell.

I think Jimbo is "secretly" Lucas. It may that the alias stands for:

Joy,
I
Milk
Banthas

You bet your Ewok it is! Hopefully the effects have been left alone...

It's supposed to be a very cheap disc, 2 movies on 1 DVD for about $11 SRP. I don't care for these films as they didn't even bother using the correct sound effects as well as other problems..

I voted bought it and enjoyed it. The lack short supply of extras prevent from being the best DVD set ever. That would have to go to the Alien Quadrilogy.

I want to add another category: "Rented it, and hate it!".

That´s my story pretty much. I have no desire to own those suckers after having viewed them. Those silly changes bug the hell out of me and I will not support Lucas by buying this sub-standard DVD release ridden with bugs and inconsistencies, it´s cleary a rushjob, to try to counter the piracy market. Lucas is marketing those suckers as the OT, with no mention of the changes made or nothing. He´s deceiving the general buying public, those who "do not know". There are probably a LOT of unhappy buyers thinking they were buying the OT since it isn´t labelled as a "Special Edition" only to find those new versions even more messed up than the dreaded ‘97 release.

I bought it and was not disappointed, since I knew exactly what to expect (technical screwups and all) from all the coverage here and elsewhere. I think it fits better with the Prequels now, but the changes unfortunately detract from its original greatness.

It's kind of similar to my reaction to the Matrix ... the original Matrix was great all by itself. I was excited about the sequels, but they turned out to be a disaster. So now I just pretend they don't exist, and enjoy the original movie for what it is.

The difference with Star Wars is that I do enjoy the Prequels somewhat (though I have to grit my teeth to get through some parts), so I don't want to pretend that they don't exist. And I really don't mind having a "Prequelized" version of the OT to go with the Prequels. But I still want to be able to enjoy the original trilogy in all its unaltered glory as well.

What I really want is the Alien Quadrilogy treatment -- a nice set with the original and "director's cut" versions of all the films. But I'll take what I can get ... which means LaserDisc-quality bootlegs for now.
