Pokémon Christmas Special Preservation (* on hiatus *)

Hello. I am wanting to make a fansub of the Pokémon anime as part of my rebellion against censoring animation. Right now, I am just focusing on the Indigo League arc. For the first 37 episodes, I plan to use the Original Broadcast Versions (OBV). Of course, Episode 38 only aired once, so it’s already in its OBV. As for the rest of the Indigo League episodes, I plan on recording them off of Amazon Japan. However, there’s one episode that I am confused about when it comes to Amazon Japan and that is the Christmas Special, Jynx’s Christmas*, which was originally intended to be Episode 39, but was delayed due to the epileptic incident caused by Episode 38. Bulbapedia claims that Amazon Japan uses the re-edited version from Pokémon Smash, which changes Jynx’s skin from black to purple. However, I have looked on Amazon Japan and the screenshot for the episode clearly shows Jynx in her original design, how she’s supposed to be in that episode. This is why I am creating this topic so that we are able to see this episode how it originally aired on TV Tokyo, without any on-screen logos whatsoever. If you could tell me where I can find this episode that way, then that would be great. Thank you.

*When 4Kids dubbed this episode, they called it, “Holiday Hi-Jynx”.

We captured them from Kids Station years ago and I have access to transport streams. They’ve got logos, of course, but it’s possible to filter them out pretty well, as the MP4s on my server which I encoded way back then have the logo rather cleanly removed.

I don’t know if better than that can be done.

Well, at least it’s possible to filter the logos out. Also, I’ve got a copy of the episode without any logos at all. This was ripped from the VHS release of Pikachu’s Summer Vacation, the short film shown before the first Pokémon movie, Mewtwo Strikes Back. I’ll just replace the VHS rip with the TV rip once I get around to it. Thank you.

I believe the VHS version actually has a different ED than my TV version. I want to say the one on the tape is “Pocket ni Fantasy” and the one on TV is “Nyarth no uta”.

I can hotlink my MP4 privately, but not here (forum rules).

It’s all right, I plan on using “Fantasy in My Pocket” at the end of the episode for a Pokémon fan project I’m working on called, “The Original Intended Run”. This will be my attempt at making the Indigo League arc as it was originally intended to run. The first 38 episodes will be exactly as they originally aired on TV Tokyo. As for the rest of the episodes, the footage themselves will remain the same, but the opening theme, as well as the eyecatch will be in the style of the first 38 episodes. I will also try to follow the intended broadcast schedule as closely as I can. The Original Intended Run will also include the movie, Mewtwo Strikes Back, as it was originally supposed to be, meaning no prologue. However, the prologue will be shown as a separate video, which I’ve created using the footage from the Original Theatrical Version of the movie, as well as footage from the English dub of the ten-minute short added to the movie for the Kanzenban version. I call this twenty-minute short, “The Birth of Mewtwo”, after the radio drama of the same name. I have already finished the Original Intended version of the movie, as well as The Birth of Mewtwo. I don’t know when I’ll get around to doing the episodes themselves, but I’ll let everyone know once I do get to them.

Apparently even the Aitwo segment exists in CG and non-CG variants (the latter on the “Mewtwo Returns” R1 and PAL DVDs). I only heard THAT recently.

If you extrapolate the original airdates, you can manage to place the episodes known in English as “PRINCESS VS. PRINCESS” and “The Purr-fect Hero” such that they would have aired on March 3 and May 5 of 1998, respectively. I can’t remember exactly how I did this but it involves putting “Holiday Hi-Jynx”, “Snow Way Out” and “Pikachu’s Goodbye” in that exact order (even though the last of these was supposedly created to replace episode 38). The information in the Mewtwo LD should be able to point you in the right direction.

Well, since “Forest of Pikachu*” wasn’t originally intended for the series, it won’t be part of the series. However, I do intend on including it as a bonus, complete with the OP and eyecatch in the style of Episodes 1-38.

*4Kids called this episode “Pikachu’s Goodbye”.

I’m aware, I subtitled that episode myself years ago (it’s the source for a running gag in my circles involving the phrase “good arms” - mistranslation of 腕がいい). I used dub titles to avoid confusion or uncertainty.

Okay, so just to update, I’ve found out that this old Windows application called VirtualDub has a DeLogo filter and judging from what I’ve seen of it, it actually works. However, it’ll probably be about a year or so before I get a Windows laptop.
