I personally thought he poorly juggled Rey, Kylo, Finn, and Rose. Luke in TLJ seemed like one of the few quality aspects of the film. I kinda think he was very scared to mess up Luke’s character and therefore spent a lot of time with that part of the story. Meanwhile, the other newer characters basically got second-rate care. None of these characters got me excited for the next film, unlike in TFA.

That said, I have no solid ill-preconceptions against Rian Johnson. TLJ was a massive undertaking, and from what I understand, the first blockbuster he directed (cause other than that, there’s Looper and a Breaking Bad episode?) So I’m willing to give him another crack at SW film making. Perhaps he will take what experience he had with TLJ and improve with his trilogy.
