I watched V6 and I love the edit. Fantastic work. The kissing scene at the lake is unfortunately not optimal. Just as the music gets really emotional, the scene ends. No idea if this is going to fix. What scene I’ve never liked - Anakin is reluctant to fly to Geonosis because Windu gives him the command. It seems like Anakin did not want to save his master. Terrible scene. Apart from that, the edit is awesome. Fantastic work Hal.

I’ve noticed that odd cut as well. It’s obviously done that way to remove Padme saying, “I shouldn’t have done that”, but at the same time different music might help quite a bit.

The cut and scene transition is perfect, but the scene is too short for the music. No idea if you can place the music differently or choose other music. The music fits perfectly. Too bad.

Yeah, I couldn’t find anything that seemed better. It transitions during the point at which the music came to an abrupt halt anyway, to coincide with the kiss being cut off suddenly.

Maybe you can take the song from the soundtrack and insert it.

The soundtrack doesn’t have an appropriately low-key rendition that fit nicely into the scene. At least not that I remember. It was a while ago.

I’m pretty sure the song is being played in the credits

Also, if Dex’s Diner is included, Dex ideally should not mention that the Kaminoans are cloners. It ruins the revelation of the clone army on Kamino.

Before anyone asks, I would like to address this recent post from Schorman13 in which he announced an update to the source material for this fan edit (and LOE): https://originaltrilogy.com/topic/schormans-HDTV-Star-Wars-Saga-Preservation/id/16702/page/5#1290777

While I welcome an update to his project, I cannot reconcile the idea of manually reconnecting each separate clip in the movie to my existing timeline and all the headache-inducing logistics involved with it with the seemingly mostly academic improvements to be appreciated. My FCP7 timelines for all three prequel edits are so convoluted and barely able to be reckoned with, like a house on fire and on the verge of collapse while you hurry to gather precious belongings.

In other words, my life situation makes it necessary to pass on revising my AOTC edit. I wish this update had come 6 weeks sooner, but I have got to move on. I know you’ll forgive me, and it does pain me not to pursue the best for this project, but I am happy with V6 and have never noticed any issues with the source material. If I went to the, what for me now would be a very tall order, trouble of remastering it yet again it doesn’t seem like there would be much benefit at all.

LOE is already ready to go, so even though the same issues would apply in a lesser degree, I reach the same conclusion for the same reasons.

I remain happy with TAS being complete in finality, and look forward to bringing LOE into the same state soon.

I’m perfectly happy with the quality of V6 and I haven’t used FCP7 in a while, but wouldn’t you just need to use ‘reconnect media’ to repoint the source file to the new file? That should automatically update everything in the sequence since you are swapping out the ‘master’ file that it’s referencing.

That’s how it’s supposed to work, but from a certain point onward the films fall drastically out of sync from about halfway through to the end. It’s been all three prequels, even though I never changed primary sources for Ep1.
Even if a ‘reconnect media’ worked perfectly at this point, it wouldn’t align with me fixing it manually before.

Supposed to be easy. And if this was a fresh project that I did correctly and straightforwardly, it probably would be. I have so many nested sequences for the prequels, which I now know is a supremely bad idea for FCP7. It crashes very often when any of them are opened, no matter how much I clean out of them; those nested sequences are just part of what has to be there to get the projects up and running. If I did want to go back, I might as well create the whole video stream from scratch, manually searching for each shot or section between edits and painstakingly checking everything, and I don’t have it in me. Not after just doing close to that for V6 for 2 and 3.

I just updated the torrent and Google Drive listings for this project, to replace the glitched commentary track with a fixed version. If you don’t care about the commentary track, you can stick with what you already have. (I just fixed and re-muxed in the commentary track, nothing more.)

Ah, interesting. That’s a tough one. Definitely not worth the headache then.

Alright, ran through last night with your Ep 1 (this time to enjoy as opposed to pick apart 😉 )

Suggestions for TAS - lower the pitch of Jar Jar’s voice. It seems higher here, which accents the fact that he already has worse lines in this movie (not much you can do about the lines, “Mesa so smiling to seeing yousa”, “immediately emergency powahs”). You’ve done an awesome job making the two films flow.

I know you’re having some effects work done - any chance you could fix Anakin’s face after he says “I’m sorry, milady”. You’ve removed almost all creepiness. Here it lingers.

Flying through the fire is cool except… when they come out of it, there is nothing behind them to indicate they’ve just come from a red hot area. Made the flow of the chase seem strange to me.

With Possessions, attachments, compassion - by removing possessions, you’ve removed the standard movie trope of 3 things = comfortable payoff. By leaving only two, the scene becomes slightly awkward - since it’s an awkward movie anyway, I think this hurts.

The kiss would work great with a fade out. Fade completely to black silence. Then open to the next morning with Anakin on the balcony. Callback to ANH doing it once or twice, and makes it even more suggestive.

… I don’t know if there’s a different line that can be inserted, or something… but
I cringe every time I hear Obi-Wan tell the Prime Minister when they get up to check on the clones “That’s why I’m here”. He literally just spent the entire conversation explaining he knows nothing about what’s going on and is only there to track a bounty hunter.

Preferred Saga:
1/2: Hal9000
3: L8wrtr
4/5: Adywan
6-9: Hal9000

Well, the time for suggestions for TAS is past, but I welcome your thoughts anyway.

I don’t think it’s a problem to only have Anakin list two qualities. When Padmé asks about love, he merely contrasts it with possession, then goes on to use a preferred term.

I am skeptical that lowering the pitch of Jar Jar’s voice would be seamless with all the ambient sounds and music; I couldn’t even begin to apply it well to Amidala in COD.

Hello. The TinyEncode for Episode II doesn’t seem to be there any more. I’d watch one of the other versions but they have the commentary on them. Thanks!

I see all four versions there. Does the file appear but cannot be played in-browser?
They all have commentary, and I don’t know why Google Drive presents it as the only audio option in-browser. But you can download whichever version and select whichever of the audio streams you like.

I’ve also noticed issues with google drive. The 720p video seems fine but the 1080p video is showing as a 0 byte file that won’t play in browser and all it will let me download is the 0 byte file.

Hey, I’m new around here and am wondering where it would be possible to obtain a copy of version 5 of The Approaching Storm? I personally prefer that version, but only version 6 is on google drive (I have version 5 of the other two in the trilogy).

As I am thinking about the alternate audio track I made for V5, I’ve just found the following that I could duplicate for V6 (most of my V5 changes are no longer relevant for V6):

  • Replace Padmé’s “Ani” with “Anakin” taken from the deleted scene (All channels)

  • Add eerie motif at Kamino from McNeely’s “Imperial City” (All channels)

  • Replace ending cue with McNeely’s “Imperial City” excerpt (All channels)

As soon as I find time, I’ll try to do it.

Finally found time to do it. Currently in the work (not gonna take long; Hal’s v6 has implemented one change and fixed and other changes are not longer relevant with the scene that are back into the cut); luckily I kept the uncompressed files of each separate channel, so quality wise it’s gonna be the same as before. The export will be ac3 since I don’t have the tool to do it in lossless dts quality. As soon as Hal has finished and shared his EpIII edit(s ?), I’ll will make the same slight alternate track.

PM me when it’s finished if you want me to make a DTS encode of it for you, Mala. (Still can’t do DTS-HD MA, sadly.)
