I can see why you’d want Empire '97, but I can’t for the life of me think of why you’d want Jedi '97.

No Hayden? Shorter victory celebration? Completionism?

Completionism, yeah sure, but I never want to sit through Jedi Rocks ever again.

Adywan has done a “The Empire Strikes Back 1997 Special Edition” which might be worth getting. Don’t know of any RotJ 1997 Special Edition HD preservations/restorations though.

I’ve been looking for this version, but all I could find was his ESB:Revisited.

I’m not sure how or where you’re searching for it but if you simply search “Adywan”, you should be able to find it. There’s a 14gb version and a 8gb version. They may not be obviously labelled as the 1997 SE’s so best read the file descriptions.

Of the 4 usenet search engines I’ve tried, the 8 GB and 14 GB versions of Adywan’s 1997 ESB only seem to show up under NZBKing. This site’s NZB files changed format for some reason a year or two ago immediately after their servers crashed for a few days, and ever since then my usenet software (alt.binz 3.94 - free and portable) hasn’t pulled in their data correctly whether the file was uploaded before or after the crash. It seems to think the individual rar file sizes are only 250 kB, for example.

You may have better luck with more up to date software. As for a news server, free-usenet is great albeit slow.

Bluto

JEDIT: I’ve just tested these popular newsreaders for Usenet: NZBGet and SABnzbd. Both are also free, and have the advantage of being fully compatible with NZBKing as well as more user friendly than alt.binz.

Hello. I’m just wondering if you have to own the official Blu-Ray release of the original trilogy to get the Respecialized Edition '97, just like in the case of the Despecialized Edition. Thank you.

P.S. Can’t wait for the Respecialized Edition '97 of both The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. I’m kinda excited for those.

On this subject, folks…now that Disney owns Fox, there is a small, small chance that the 2020 reissue of the classic six films will bear the Fox opening logo.

As we know, the digital versions of all original six episodes (except Episode IV) do not have the Fox logo at the beginning, and the end title music to EMPIRE tracked onto the Lucasfilm logo.

It is important that every fan-made restoration of the original films should include the opening Fox logo in order to preserve the integrity of the original presentations.

Harmy, I hope you get this.

Harmy understands this, the 20th Century Fox logo is present on all Despecialized Editions.

Yes, my friend, you do.

As Harmy states in his opening post…

‘Fanedits and preservations are an artform and to be shared among legal owners of the officially available releases only.
Do not support piracy.’

and

‘it uses the Despecialized Edition v2.5 master as its main video source and puts the changes made in 1997 back in, mostly using the Blu-Ray version’

and under ‘Video Sources’ listed…

‘1) STAR WARS Despecialized Edition v2.5
2) STAR WARS Episode IV A New Hope Official Blu-Ray 2011’

A little patience goes a long way on this old-school Rebel base. If you are having issues finding what you are looking for, these will be of some help…

I really appreciate Harmy took the time to recreate the 97 version of ANH! But there’s one small error that’s been bugging me. I don’t know if anyone else noticed this but in the Jabba scene at one point you can see the 04 Jabba poke out of the rotoscoping for a second as shown here:

Thanks for pointing that out. I’m sure it won’t matter because I could barely notice it. The 2004 Jabba is just a invisible blur, but I’m sure people won’t be able to notice it.

Yeah it’s not going to be a problem for most people but I figured it’s worth pointing out

Hello. I now have the official Blu-Ray set of not only the Original Trilogy, but the Prequel Trilogy as well. May I please have a copy of the Respecialized Edition of Star Wars Episode IV? Also, can’t wait for the Respecialized Editions of Episode V & VI.

Okay, I have searched and searched for this, but am unable to locate it. Any chance anyone could help me out?
Big fan of these. My favourite edits have to be despecialized or Hal9000’s custom SE (can’t wait for ROTJ), but my nostalgia brain is desperate for a link to this.
Thanks

I believe it is up and available on a piratey public torrent place - and so probably other similar public torrent places as well.

The FE Renegades thread; from the people who post ‘go kill yourself’, ‘fuck you’, ‘let’s throw abuse’, and more at OT staff & members. Four years on and still throwing accusations, slurs and abuse at the OT & anyone outside their Salacious Crumb filled clique. + FE Discord “to vent” more at the OT. Wook’s take.

I found it through a torrent just a few days ago myself. It take take a bit of time to download it completely (as the one who was seeding it wasn’t always online) but I eventually got it.

I’m a big fan of Harmy’s restoration of the original Star Wars. But having the 1997 version of the movie is a real treat, especially considering that when they were released theatrically, it was a chance to watch the OT on the big screen for those who missed it the first time around, albeit in altered form. I myself saw ESB and ROTJ in the theater when I was a kid, but never Ep. 4. When the Special Edition came out, I remember watching it at midnight on opening night and the movie theater was packed. And being able to see Jabba in his pre-Phantom Menace CGI form makes for an interesting curiosity.

I’ll check this out. Not a huge fan of the 97’ SE but its better than the current version with more changes. Every now and than I’ll watch my 97’ 35mm scan version. One thing is the added CGI shots look much better than they did on blu-ray or 4K UHD.
