Hi, I’m not sure if a post regarding this already exists but I was wondering if there is a reconstruction of the Unrated Director’s Cut of Scream (1996) that contains all the censored gore?

There is an official pal DVD,and I think a very rare Japanese NTSC DVD containing the unrated version.
But AFAIK nothing in HD…

Ah I see! Thank you very much for the information. I hope some day either that version will be released or this community could some how restore it in HD. 😃 Take care!

correct

Scream 1996 1080p UNRATED FANRES AVC DD 5.1
Credit & thx to Kcognetti503

Kcognetti503’s description: This is the infamous and hard to find director’s cut of Scream in 1080p! This is a composite I made myself from the US Blu-ray, the Japanese and German unrated director’s cut DVDs to create what is to my knowledge the only way to view the director’s cut in HD. I did the best I could to blend the DVD footage with the Blu-ray footage, so hopefully it is a pleasant viewing experience for all! The soundtrack is taken from the Japanese disc and is presented in 5.1 Dolby surround sound. Enjoy :)As requested, here are some screens of the upconverted footage. It’s not perfect, but I think it’s the best I can do given the source material. Keep in mind they look better in motion.

Scream - also an all-time classic.

While I was searching for a HD variant of the unrated director’s cut myself a while ago, I have given up. The unofficial release might be a nice effort to combine the HD video with the missing scenes, but actually I wouldn’t bother with the Blu-ray video to begin with due to its awful sharpening and color-retiming.

Here, her face on the HD master looks somehow cheesy and pale:

https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?a=1&x=610&y=211&d1=6566&d2=6568&s1=61916&s2=61936&l=0&i=5&go=1

Whereas on this frame one can see that the - yeah a bit - higher resolution of the HD version is pretty much unraveled by the use of retarded filtering and sharpening:

https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?a=1&x=552&y=239&d1=6566&d2=6568&s1=61914&s2=61934&l=0&i=3&go=1

As for the Japanese DVD which I possess as well - skip that too because it has severe aliasing.

Hence overall, the German DVD by Kinowelt is the only way to go here so far.

There is also a US Laserdisc release of the Unrated Directors Cut, and I have it. Certainly not a HD presentation however.

There are even two. One with DTS and one with AC3, which has the specialty of coming alone with a somewhat different sounding Dolby Surround Mix as PCM.

Not in HD, but at least not intentionally messed up either.
