Star Wars: The Phantom Menace - Faster, More Intense! (Released) — Page 5

I haven’t seen your original edit so I cant compare the two scenes but I really enjoyed this 10min footage. The removal of the fart jokes and the two headed alien commentor (I always hated that alien) from the scene gives it a more serious tone. It would be good to remove that American accent commentator to if possible and just leave the Alien language in. I thinking adding Jabba back in doesn’t take away anything from serous tone and adds a bit of fan service. I would be really interested in watching you V2 version. Do you have an ETA?

Thanks for your feedback! I don’t think I will be removing the American announcer voice, but if you’d like to see an edit that does that, check out l8wrtr’s shadow of the sith: https://ifdb.fanedit.org/sots/

Surprise! I’m more or less done with a V2 of this edit, although I’m going to need help with a custom crawl and credits. The new version is built from the ground up using Hal’s 1080p v6 of Cloak of Deception as the only video source, along with his lossless audio and a few patches of audio from other edits and various other sources.

As for what to expect, it follows the same basic philosophy as V1 and includes many of the same cuts, but it’s a little more reigned in. I pulled back on a few cuts in V1 that I felt weren’t seamless, either due to audio transitions or continuity.I also included some things that were excised in the original cut because I’ve warmed to them a bit, or felt they were ultimately harmless. In particular, two short scenes are re-added in the first act that appear in Hal’s edit, since I felt the pacing in my V1 was a little too “fast and intense”. Jabba the Hutt also appears during the pod race this time around.

Once I get around to titles and credits, I’ll watch it through again and upload the new version.

Sounds grand! Where are you with your plans for Ep2 and 3?

I’d like to do a V2 of Ep 2 but I haven’t even started that yet so it would probably be a while. Ep 3 is still very much a work in progress.

So for V1 of this edit, I went with opening titles that mirror the sequel trilogy approach (no 20th century fox logo or fanfare, new Lucasfilm Ltd. logo)

For V2, I’ve decided that I want to bring back the Fox fanfare, but I have a few options in terms of what direction to go:
-use the original Prequel-era Fox and Lucasfilm logos from the Blu-Ray
-use the Fox logo sans “A News Corporation Company” and new Lucasfilm logo from the 4K release
-Use the “updated” 2011+ Fox logo and new Lucasfilm logo from Adywan’s ESB Revisited

No matter which direction I go, I’m probably going to be taking out “A News Corporation Company”, but I’d appreciate everyone’s thoughts on the matter.

Use the 1994 Fox logo sans “A News Corporation Company” and the Lucasfilm logo from the Blu-ray.

The new Lucasfilm logo looks nice but looks really out of place when seen on pre-Disney films (also there’s a significant period of black due to the logo not being created with the Fox fanfare in mind).

I like Adywan’s Revisited approach though, but I’d like the logos to be more in line with the other edits, which is to keep them mostly intact.

I literally just finished watching your Episode I edit moments ago and took to OT here to review what was cut and now I find out you have a v2? I’m SUPER excited to hear this, even though I found this edit to be flawless and amazed how much I enjoyed Ep I after never understanding what the hell was going on. Please please please share a link to your v2. Now, I’m gearing up to watch your Ep II in a few days.

Thanks! I’m waiting on a new crawl and credits additions from InitAbsolute and then I should be able to release V2. Would appreciate feedback on the changes!

Hey, I’ve seen a few prequel edits and I’m curious to check out what you’ve done. Do you have links for download? How big are the files? My internet here is not so fast…

Hey Octorox! Glad to hear you’re revisiting this project. Your Eps I&II are my go-to as I feel they take the best ideas from all around.

V2 is done and available via PM! Updated the OP, including a link to the google doc with a revised cutlist. Overall I’ve taken a slightly more conservative approach with V2, but I hope none of the reversions detract from the experience. The cutlist is still quite a bit larger than Hal’s Cloak of Deception, which I’ve used as a base. I would appreciate any feedback you might have!

Yeah, I will be sending links shortly. I noticed an issue with the scrolling credits I want to address first.
