I believe they have their own film library. The Academy museum opening in 2020 will have it’s own theater.

Kiri Hart still works for Lucasfilm as do at least some of the people in attendance, right?

Would this be the first sanctioned screening of the original version since before 1997?

I recall hearing a story once about how George himself was at a screening he thought was going to be the SE and it was still the original version and he appeared visibly uncomfortable about it. That was a story from some random person on the internet though, and I don’t remember now where I read it, so take it with a grain of salt.

There will be no one in attendance on Saturday. The event with the LFL employees is tomorrow.

She left Lucasfilm back in February to run a residency program for television writers.

Correction to whatever I said earlier, since the back-to-back screenings (are they showing RO and SW in release order or chronological order?) are on Saturday and the other event is tonight.

Still, the very subject matter of the event tonight puts the spotlight on SW’s analog effects, a large part of which was erased for the SE.

Meanwhile, the screenings on Saturday, as someone already pointed out, aren’t exactly being done by some random theater, it’s the freakin’ Academy.

And there’s a chatroom too. I need to recall my youtube login.

So the livestream is just covering the event and talks with the crew though right?

Does the behind the scenes footage look restored to anyone else?

And a pro SE crank in the chat already…

We also missed out on the sizzle reel that ran beforehand… 😦

Looks like it to me! And that was me dissing the SE, lol. It would be downright insulting to tell John Dykstra and the other legends in attendance that “special editions are great, makes it look modern.” I don’t get these people.

Yes, looks that way to me, too. And there are certain BTS scenes I never saw before. And I saw A LOT.
A few months ago there were rumors that Lucasfilm was digging in their archives to preserve a lot of material. I think this footage they are showing right now is a big indicator that those rumors were true.

Would be nice to see what’s on the screen behind Ben and Marcia.

I am so happy for this site’s existence and the despecialized editions for preserving these historical films.

Man, the trolls in that chat.

Yeah it seems like Harrison used a DVD or the blu-ray of the SE as a source for his presentation. Broke my heart to see him talking about his work while showing shots where it had all been replaced.

It was a great panel, I feel inspired even though I knew most of the facts already. The camera work in Rogue One was very cool and the innovation in ANH never ceases to baffle me. My favorite parts of the panel were when they were reminiscing about the “good old days” working on the models/paintings/custom cameras and sliding on waterslides. Imagine being a hippie and getting to work on star wars. So awesome.

So…

A little birdie told me the 70mm print is from 1984 so it shouldn’t have the fade…but it is definitely the original film.
