I was lucky/unfortunate enough to get tickets to the UK premiere of Battlefield Earth (through a friend of a friend). John Travolta was there and before the movie he gave a speech in which he attempted to explain the meaning of the film and what he and the writer/director were trying to get across. But he seemed well aware that whatever it was he believed and was trying to convey the film failed on so many levels and the speech basically amounted to an advance apology for what we were about to see. I have never seen Travolta in the same way since. On the plus side I got to walk down the red carpet past the crowds and photographers.
