Keep in mind--Lucas isn't the only person that invites people to The Ranch and just because someone DOES get an invite doesn't mean it was run by George first. The fact the guy went to a premiere on the Ranch means nothing but he knows people who know people who work there. It's not like George Lucas bends over a desk and addresses envelopes himself, nor does he actually draw up lists. Plenty of people have been to the ranch. I'm pretty sure Mags invitation was more a coincidence or a lucky break of "who you know" than it was a "Reward" for his editing, which is how many here choose to see it.
I know two or three people who got invited to the Ranch, and Rick McCallum and George Lucas have said nice things in passing to them, too. It didn't mean Lucas and McCallum INVITED THEM, or even knew they were there before they met. Because they didn't know who they were, or why they were there, and they certainly didn't invite them personally.
People here are reading entirely too much into McCallums offhand comment (it's very possible McCallum isn't very familiar with the endless variations of edits, he just knows there's a bunch of em) and I think it has a lot to do with--despite everyone's simmering distaste of the man--seeking ol Lucas' approval. the man is reviled to the 4 corners of the board, but he's trumpeted as the be-all end all authority when it looks like he MIGHT have approved of something someone here did. Odd dichotomy, there.
Just something to keep in mind.
