I’ve edited/cleaned up Scene 38 for anyone interested:

That’s a hell of a lot better. Just needs some color grading adjustments to both the new and original footage, to get it to fit together and up to standard. That blu-ray footage looks god-awful, I wish the original guy had at least regraded it.

Still, I think if it were to be put into the the actual film, I would still tone down the over the top elements of the new footage.

You’re making me think some of this might be useful for an edit after all.

It is a pretty cool fan film, but I don’t think this could be seamless at all with the existing footage. Maybe two or three shots (Obi raising his saber to his face, the quick Obi spin, Vader killing Obi), but it still would stand out like a sore thumb imo.

At least for this Remastered edit, I think at most he could modify the existing footage. Maybe he could add blue/red saber glows to the duel, more cuts on the walls, maybe the nearby damaged lights could flicker off to make it look a little more dramatic, maybe he could add the saber reflection in Vader’s eyes when he says “You should not have come back”.

If the intention is to make some dated parts of the film be more appealing to a modern audience, those might be ideas that could be implemented without just totally replacing big chunks of original footage.

While Petro is replacing original ship special effects with new visual effects, I think it still works because there is a clear separation between space and non-space shots.

But he may want to use that, or he’s mainly focusing on just the ships/lasers and stuff.
