Oh, boy. I started this project with FCP7 and I’m going to finish it. The old project files are a complicated maze of nested sequences, and the program can hardly do anything at all with them without crashing. But, I did the equivalent of propping up the foundation while the building burns down and was able to copy the essentials and paste them into a new project. I’ll be starting V6 with the lossless audio output from V5, which shouldn’t result in any meaningful loss.
For each change I do, I will write down the timecode of a marker after the change point. Then, make the actual change. Then, calculate the number of frames I will need to shift the subtitles and commentary track, doing so after each change. I set up a project management thing to track all of this for the changes I intend to make. I have two very small children at home and have a great deal on my plate in life. It will be cumbersome. It will be slowgoing. It will not be worth it. But it’ll be worth it. Wait…
